The battle of cable street, this was one of the roughest areas in London and the fascists chose to have a demonstation there. The Krays were from the same area.

No takers on this one so here's the answer: http://www.bbc.com/travel/story/2020050 ... d-scotland Interesting story and beautiful countryside.PeteC wrote: ↑Sat May 09, 2020 5:01 am Here's another one if anyone interested and has time after the current challenge is concluded.
Where and what?
....."This was highlighted in a remarkable parliamentary decree issued by the governments of both countries in the mid-16th Century, All Englishmen and Scottishmen are and shall be free to rob, burn, spoil, slay, murder and destroy, all and every such person and persons, their bodies, property, goods and livestock… without any redress to be made for same.”.....
"For 300 years, the Debatable Lands flourished as an anarchic no-man's land; not independent, but too dangerous for either Scotland or England to be able – or want – to take control of."

DM The battle of cable street also took place in October 1936, which also would be correct.

On July 2 the President of the United States, James Garfield, was shot by a disgruntled office-seeker. Doctors repeatedly poked their fingers into the bullet hole looking for the bullet, causing an infection. Garfield died on September 19.
I also came across this, which was all new to me:
Wyoming was the first place in the entire world to give women the vote.[1] A U.S. territory in 1869, Wyoming's first territorial legislature voted to give women the right to vote and to hold public office. A legislature made entirely of men passed a woman suffrage bill in 1869.[2] The territory retained its woman suffrage law even when that law jeopardized Wyoming Territory's application for statehood. In 1890, Wyoming became the first U.S. state allowing its woman citizens to vote

one thing I chased up recently was how many influenza outbreaks there have been and when was the first one.
anyone know this?
The following observation was made about the 1918 flu, 'the government mounted a massive propaganda effort.
Truth and falsehood are arbitrary terms…. There is nothing in experience to tell us that one is always preferable to the other…. The force of an idea lies in its inspirational value. It matters very little if it is true or false” (Vaughn S. Holding Fast the Line: Democracy, Nationalism, and the Committee on Public Information. Chapel Hill, NC: University of North Carolina Press; 1980. [Reference list])
This observation describes Trump's utterences.

Not a dog racing man then, eh?

Given the size of the place, Wembley must be a good bet.

The Olympics were twice held at White City! I remember being taken to see it when I was a primary school. It wasn't being used then but it was still a sight to behold.
