Elderly couple killed, son injured in crash

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... d-in-crash

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT: An elderly couple were killed when a car driven by their son crashed into a roadside tree in Hua Sai district late on Monday night, police said.

The accident occurred about 11.30pm on Hua Sai-Pak Muang road near Moo 1 village in tambon Laem, Pol Capt Prasong Pasakol, an investigator at Khao Phang Krai, said on Tuesday.

Banyat Noocheen, 36, who was injured, told police he was taking his seriously ill father Somkid, 71, to Hua Sai Hospital in his Toyota Vios. His mother, Phai, 62, was sitting with his father in the back seat.

Mr Banyat admitted he was driving fast, rushing his father to the hospital. He was at a curve when a dog ran out of the darkness and in front of the car. He lost control, the car ran off the road and hit a tree.

His father and mother both died from injuries received in the crash.

Police were investigating.

That's quite sad. I've had to rush a child to hospital (albeit in daylight) and you do drive faster than normal, take risks that you wouldn't normally do. All hazard lights flashing hoping that people will get out of your way. If true, this guy, in an attempt to get his father to the hospital, lost both his parents. He's going to have to live with that.

Very sad.

These things are always sad, but like crash helmets on bikes, how many wear rear seatbelts? Looking at the wreckage, I'd guess that was a contributory factor.

Village head killed in rail crossing crash

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... sing-crash

NAKHON SAWAN: A village head was killed when his pickup truck was by a Phitsanulok-bound passenger train at a railway crossing in Phayuha Khiri district of Nakhon Sawan on Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred at Ban Tharnwai railway crossing in tambon Srathong, said Pol Lt Col Wanchana Kangkorn, investigation chief at Nikhom Khao Bokaeo police station, who was alerted at 9.09am on Tuesday.

Police, medical staff and rescue workers arrived at the scene to find a crushed Isuzu pickup truck with Nakhon Sawan licence plates overturned by the railway crossing, which had no barrier.

The driver was killed, his body trapped in the wreckage. He was later identified as Dokrak Meemuk, head of Village Moo 14 in tambon Nikhom Khao Bokaeo of Phayuha Khiri district.

While forensic officers were examining the body, his grieving relatives arrived at the scene. They told police that the village head had just left the house and was on his way to a meeting at the district hall.

Train service was halted for more than an hour as debris was removed from the track. The train's locomotive was slightly damaged.

The crash was witnessed by construction workers who were expanding the track. They told police that although there was no barrier at the crossing, they facilitated vehicles crossing the tracks to ensure safety. Just before the accident, they signalled the pickup truck to stop as a train was approaching. The driver stopped the pickup as requested, but the vehicle suddenly lurched forward into the path of the train.

Police suspected the gear may have not have been put in neutral.

The investigators were to question more witnesses to determine the exact cause of the crash.

Car hit by train on crossing, driver killed

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... ver-killed

KANCHANABURI: A man was killed when his car was hit by a train on a railway crossing in Tha Muang district on Tuesday afternoon.

The accident occurred about 3.15pm at a crossing without barriers near Pattanakan road in tambon Tha Lo, Tha Muang investigator Pol Capt Chumpol Luang-iam said.

Narong Bokerd, 59, was driving his Honda Jazz over the crossing when it was hit in the middle by train No.258, en route from Nam Tok to Thon Buri with six passenger cars.

The train pushed the car along the track for about 50 metres before grinding to a halt.

Narong was crushed to death in the driver's seat. Rescuers used a hydraulic jack to pry open the wreckage and remove his body.

Local residents said Narong, a tailor, routinely drove over the crossing to a relative's house beside the railway.

The locomotive was slightly damaged. The train was delayed for several hours while the body was removed from the wrecked car and the line was finally cleared.
