Instead of American Idol why don't they come up with Hua Hin Idol?
A big talent show You could have the villagers write in their votes to Hua Hin After Dark who could tabulate the scores. Surely there is plenty of local "talent".

What are you thinking Big Al? BTW, this is me asking personally, not mod approved! Just singing, like Idol? Or all round talent? For Thais? For expats? For HHAD members? Mixture?
Could have it's merits. I'm sure a lot of the locals would love it - They all seem to love to sing.

I don't live in Hua Hin anymore at least not now. But at my work now which is very multicultural we have all sorts of Westerners, Asians, etc. Now everyone speaks English of course but American Idol seems to catch everyone's interest.
If you have enough talent which Hua Hin does, get some sponsorship going and you might even have people coming in from BKK. You could spoof it up a little bit so it's not an outright copywrite violation and make it into great fun for all.
Dawn maybe it could be for your organization as a fund raiser.
Webster and Stamford have some talented folks plus there's lots of wannabees from the party scene just check out how packed Karaoke was some nites.
6 contestants would not be enough you would need to open it up.

I do think it has some definite possibilities, either for PR or, as you suggest, as a fundraiser. And I think it could be very popular. If HHAD don't use it, I might pinch it (with your permission
). If it were just HHDRC, though it would have to be pared down to just a one-night event, which would be a shame.

Cops love to sing, nothing else to do when waving your arms at traffic. Guaranteed if some MIB find out about it, they'll show up in full uniform and start to belt out Thai Pavaroti (sp)...if you push them they'll sing "Country Roads, take me home..." The most famous English language song in Thai karoke houses. PeteDawnHHDRC wrote:I do think it has some definite possibilities, either for PR or, as you suggest, as a fundraiser. I like a bit of fun but
"PLEASE DONT BRING YOUR GUNS TO TOWN"
If such a thing were done depending on scope and scale your finals could be a superior venue with the events leading up happening anywhere. Bars around town, etc.
I think you just have to put up flyers, get some committed folks and get the word out.

I'm generally open to this Idea of having a talent contest but not like American Idol style. it is difficult enough to keep the interest for the 6th Season of ot in the US. But having a Huge Single event which lasts a whole weekend with eight contestents and have the whole local region participate with it. A good Idea BIG A.
But It's not an America Idol or an Hua Hin Idol anymore rather a local singing contest with no chances that the winners others that the prices they get, will not get a contract with a Big record label as sugested in American Idol.
I personally despise American Idol. Some of those so called stars that where discovered on that show only get famous for one album and then diappear into oblivion.
I prefer the method of working yourselves up, first playing in small pubs build yourselves a fanbase and as you are getting better your fanbase get bigger. Simutaneously have a Website to showcase your talent and all of your songs that you Sing.
