Covid-19 News & Updates
Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
On those you quote, I can only comment on MV, Macro and Baguette. Baguette, I wouldn't expect to see many wearing masks because it make eating and drinking a bit difficult.
MV and Macro, people have to wear them to get in. After that I would guess wearing is <50%. In particular, the sales assistants are terrible. Try walking past the phone shops on the top floor - I'd reckon you could count on one hand how many sellers are complying. Walk around the basement foodcourt - how many people preparing food are compliant - 10%?

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
those are 2 floors I rarely go on.
Of course people don't wear masks while eating, they wear them while shopping, before and after eating.
I suppose one could cut a flap, that velcros down & up and lifts up for eating. Wind players and singers could do the same, kissers too. Ditto sex workers.

What I find interesting is what's not on that list. After all the constant talk of hydroxychloroquine from Trump, he's not actually taking it himself, now that he has the virus. The president has been administered a single 8 gram dose of Regeneron Pharmaceutical's antibody cocktail, the physician said. The therapy is still in human trials, but is considered one of the most promising COVID-19 treatments.
Trump is also taking zinc, vitamin D, famotidine, melatonin, and a daily aspirin
Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
Well I for one am going to start upping my dosage a little just in case. It's the responsible thing to do in these uncertain times. Stay safe folks.

I called the Cannabis clinic in Cha Am. They only have CDB oil and you have to make an appt. with the Dr. to be examined and sign up for a spa treatment where the oil will be massaged into you. Got a long story from the manager about all the famous people coming for treatment. When I told him I didn't want the spa treatment, he hung up. Draw your own conclusions.

Prachuap Khiri Khan blocks borders with barbed wire after Covid-19 reports in Myanmar
https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/prac ... in-myanmar
With the recent report of 41 new Covid-19 cases in a neighbouring Myanmar town, Prachuap Khiri Khan officials are making sure the Thai-Myanmar natural border is blocked with barbed wire fences. The province’s governor Panlop Singhaseni says all districts have been told to keep borders secure.
In Prachuap Khiri Khan, 40 natural borders have been closed off to prevent people from entering Thailand illegally and potentially spreading the virus. Thai truck drivers can still cross the border to transport basic necessities. The province also set up more than 20 Covid-19 screening checkpoints. 400 locals in the area have been tested, but there have been no positive cases in the province.
Myanmar was hit with a surge of cases last month and the virus continues to spread. The majority of cases first spread in the Rakhine state on the country’s western coast and then spread across the country, popping up in towns bordering Thailand. The country has reported 18,781 Covid-19 cases with 5,548 recoveries and 444 deaths, according to Worldometer.
Recently, Myanmar’s Myeik province, which borders 8 districts in Prachuap Kiri Khan, reported 41 new Covid-19 cases, adding up to 66 cases in the area. 39 of the new cases are monks. A Covid-19 screening point was set up in Myeik requiring travellers entering the province to show a passport and certificate of examination.
Thailand border officers in various districts have been tightening patrol over the past month, monitoring the area and arresting a number of migrants caught allegedly crossing the border. Some have placed barbed wire to prevent people from crossing into Thailand through natural passageways. Some volunteers have even started to patrol the area.

New Technology Refuses Entrance to Shops if You’re Not Wearing a Face Mask
A new technology being used in shops in Thailand and other countries to enforce coronavirus restrictions conducts a face scan to check if the customer is wearing a mask and refuses entry if they don’t have one.
“My local shops in Thailand. In 2 seconds scans my temperature and to see if wearing mask. Doors don’t open if not. 3 cases in 100+ days here. Removes awkward mask arguments for staff as well,” tweeted Niall Harbison.
The system resembles something you’d see as part of airport security. The customer walks up to a screen which displays the words ‘Face Detector’. The system then scans to check if the customer is wearing a mask before allowing them to pass through a barrier.
Many of the respondents in the Twitter thread supported the idea, but others warned that this was another example of how people are being forced to accept the “new normal.”
“I wish people would stop championing and normalising this nonsense,” commented one user. “We will never get back to 2019 Normal if we continue down this road. A global over-reaction of epic proportions – we’ve been utterly played by the Chinese over this one. I bet they can’t believe it themselves.”

There could be 2 shopping areas: one for the masked and one for the unmasked and never the twain shall meet.
There could be separate countries for those who want to wear a mask and those who don't then, everyone would know the truth about whether masks do or don't prevent the spread of Covid-19.
This could lead to a feature film and TV series with related products for sale and act as an economic stimulus in these perilous times.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
There already is. It's called Sweden, and is now being seen as the role model of how we live with this virus (well, apart from the bit where they accidentally killed quite a few of their elderly care home residents)handdrummer wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 9:27 am

The Great Barrington Declaration was launched a few days ago by public health experts. They are calling on governments around the world to adapt a more proportionate approach to managing the pandemic that they call “Focused Protection”, whereby we allow those who are at minimal risk of death to live their lives normally, building up herd immunity, while better protecting those who are at highest risk.
So far it has attracted the signatures of 2,504 scientists, 3,081 medical practitioners and 47,772 members of the public.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
The Great Barrington Declaration has been widely criticised. It talks about 'Focused Protection' which is a system already adopted for other diseases. The difference of course is that 'other diseases' have proven treatments and vaccines. Applying this to Covid lacks substance.
It's believed that Sweden turned the other cheek regarding Covid and did nothing. Not quite true. Although they didn't produce legislation (afaik) they did call a 'work from home', limit group gatherings and ban visits to nursing homes.
Their population of 10 million has a covid death rate per capita equal to the US, Italy and others and many times more than Denmark, Norway and Germany. A quarter of the population lives around Stockholm where cases are rising. They had more young people in ICU's than other countries in Europe.
More children were infected with many being admitted to ICU's than any of it's neighbours. Staff in hospitals are now wearing masks and face shields after surges of cases in hospital staff.
So Sweden did actually take some precautions however, they've never had a lockdown (so far) but at a cost.

Sweden’s all cause mortality for 2020 is at one of its lowest points over the past 30 years. Spot the deadly pandemic.

I see your chart, Nil, but current news seems to contradict what that graph shows.
Sweden Tries to Isolate Covid-19 Cases Without a Lockdown as Infections Surge
In just under three weeks, the number of Covid-19 patients receiving intensive care treatment in Sweden has doubled.
The number of people in intensive care units for the virus reached a peak in Sweden during in April, with 558 patients on the 25th and 26th of the month.
Since then, the total has been steadily decreasing and fell to only 12 on September 11th.
But since, the number of people with the coronavirus in intensive care has slowly risen again, reaching 24 on October 1st according to the Swedish Intensive Care Register.
It comes as Swedish authorities are warning of a rise in the number of cases after a long lull during summer. This rise and fears of a second wave have prompted the government to push back plans to raise the limit of attendees at seated events, and the Public Health Agency to introduce new stricter rules for family members of people with Covid-19.

https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/10 ... e-backlashIndirect data suggest children in Sweden were infected far more often than their Finnish counterparts. The FoHM report says 14 Swedish kids were admitted to intensive care with COVID-19, versus one in Finland, which has roughly half as many schoolchildren. In Sweden, at least 70 children have been diagnosed with multisystem inflammatory syndrome, a rare complication of COVID-19, versus fewer than five in Finland.
In the population as a whole, the impact of Sweden’s approach is unmistakable. More than 94,000 people have so far been diagnosed with COVID-19, and at least 5895 have died. The country has seen roughly 590 deaths per million—on par with 591 per million in the United States and 600 in Italy, but many times the 50 per million in Norway, 108 in Denmark, and 113 in Germany.
I see your chart, Nil, but current news seems to contradict what that graph shows.
Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
They are heading into Autumn/Winter. Perfectly normal not get a rise in hospitalisations from respiratory diseases.
Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
Sweden’s “surge” in infections.
Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
Nil, that shows the number of infections. Sweden's population is 10+ million. The US has 330 million. Both countries have around 590 deaths per million and Italy with 600 per million.
Contrast that with Norway, Denmark and Germany were the numbers are much less.
The above graph shows the number of infections in 5 countries and is nowhere near any meaningful comparison.
The surge is real. Relative to the population and historical data.
