It might be a massive leap in healthcare. In theory they have one vaccine and they just reprogram the genetic code for the disease. It can then be produced quickly and efficiently.
But we don't know yet as it hasn't been used on humans yet apart from the recent trials and we don't know of any long term side effects yet. It is a completely different technology to the existing vaccines. The governments are selling this as the silver bullet, might even be available by year end. They plan a mass rollout. But I bet most people don't realise what they will be taking. Even if you search for it most websites gloss over the details.
Personally I would rather wait.

It's interesting how they are only getting 9 positives out of 277,000. The PCR false positive rate has been estimated at between 0.8 and 4.0%

Nebarro had to clarify his stance on lockdowns in OZ after his remarks produced a headline "WHO warns against lockdowns". I'll try and find the link.
Personally, I don't believe it's WHO policy, more of an opinion from Nebarro who just happens to be a 'special' envoy, appointed earlier this year. We'll see.

What these do is make your own cells produce the spike protein of SARS-COV-2 which your immune system is then supposed to recognise and build immunity.

Operative word: "supposed." And if it doesn't is an autopsy included in the fee?

Urgent Covid testing starts after Tak cases
Three mobile Covid-19 testing units were on Monday sent to examine about 4,000 Thai and Myanmar nationals in Mae Sot district of Tak province after three Myanmar lorry drivers tested positive for the new coronavirus at the Thai border between Friday and Saturday.

All are residents of border communities seen as being at high risk of spreading the virus that causes Covid-19, said Thoetkiat Shinsoranan, mayor of Mae Sot City Municipality.

The active testing was carried out while residents of this municipality were being warned to stay home and avoid travelling as much as they could, said Mr Thoetkiat.

Eleven schools were ordered closed on Monday for cleaning and disinfecting. The schools remain closed today on a public holiday and will open again tomorrow. In the wake of the discovery of the three new infections at the border, the two main fresh markets in Mae Sot district saw a significant drop in shoppers on Monday even though most shops were open as usual, said a source.

At Pha Charoen Market, a fresh market near the Thai-Myanmar border, Covid-19 screening measures were heightened, and the mandatory wearing of face masks at all times was strictly enforced, said the source.

Notice how none of these cases are added to Thailand's magic Covid numbers - I guess they don't consider Burmese or aid workers as people.
Recently came back from Ranong which is heavily populated with Burmese. Mask wearing was very closely adhered to but there was no testing or road blocks that I saw evident.

A man in the United States has caught Covid twice, with the second infection becoming far more dangerous than the first, doctors report.

The 25-year-old needed hospital treatment after his lungs could not get enough oxygen into his body.

Reinfections remain rare and he has now recovered.

But the study in the Lancet Infectious Diseases raises questions about how much immunity can be built up to the virus.

The man from Nevada had no known health problems or immune defects that would make him particularly vulnerable to Covid.

What happened when
25 March - First wave of symptoms, including sore throat, cough, headache, nausea and diarrhoea

18 April - He tests positive for the first time

27 April - Initial symptoms fully resolve

9 and 26 May - He tests negative for the virus on two occasions

28 May - He develops symptoms again, this time including fever, headache, dizziness, cough, nausea and diarrhoea

5 June - He tests positive for the second time, and is hypoxic (low blood oxygen) with shortness of breath

Scientists say the patient caught coronavirus twice, rather than the original infection becoming dormant and then bouncing back. A comparison of the genetic codes of the virus taken during each bout of symptoms showed they were too distinct to be caused by the same infection.

"Our findings signal that a previous infection may not necessarily protect against future infection," said Dr Mark Pandori, from the University of Nevada.

"The possibility of reinfections could have significant implications for our understanding of Covid-19 immunity."

He said even people who have recovered should continue to follow guidelines around social distancing, face masks and hand washing.

Scientists are still grappling with the thorny issue of coronavirus and immunity.

Does everyone become immune? Even people with very mild symptoms? How long does any protection last?

These are important questions for understanding how the virus will affect us long-term and may have implications for vaccines and ideas such as herd immunity.

So far, reinfection seems to be rare - there have been only a few examples out of more than 37 million confirmed cases.

Reports in Hong Kong, Belgium and the Netherlands said they were no more serious than the first. One in Ecuador mirrored the US case in being more severe, but did not need hospital treatment.

However, it is still early into the pandemic, and the history of other types of coronavirus means protection is expected to wane.

As countries endure a second wave of the virus, we may start to get clearer answers.

As far as I am concerned that is very good news - others who decide not to take the vaccine is also fine - it is up to them.

Well let’s wait and see, but it might turn out to be “cheap by comparison” to the current set of restrictions if you want to travel to Thailand - all the testing before you arrive, medical insurance, 14 days in a quarantine hotel, all costs a fortune. If a vaccine becomes globally available we’ll be able to travel out and back without having to quarantine and take out COVID insurance, so could be a big game changer!!
