Went to their Christmas dinner last year, and am going this year. A good time and good food/drink
The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.
Re: Christmas 2020
It's a bit weird, if you're in Thailand you can get a traditional Christmas Dinner but here in Europe, there's nothing this year.
Re: Christmas 2020
Have to say that I think this is the year when we should celebrate Christmas and New Years..its been a tough one for everyone so let our hair down (those with some!!) and enjoy ourselves more. Staying at home watching TV..no thanks, unless carry on movies, old james bond are on.
Re: Christmas 2020
After this shit of a year it should be the biggest party for ages. Everyone can let their hair down (those with some obvioulsy!!) and have fun, get plenty of food and beverages into them and have a good laugh. Just talk about the US presidency debarcle! I think they should decide it with a fist fight!!! Reckon Biden maybe a sneaky favourite!

Re: Christmas 2020
Christmas is what you make it, and not up to others to enforce their opinions IMHO. I, as many others am against the commercialism at this time of year - started in the US, closely followed by the UK et.al and exaggerated in Asia (years later) by the likes of China.... Simply a way to make money with zero appreciation of what it means. I can't say I'm religious, but respect those who are (though not those that use it as an excuse for violence/persecution/negativity). Neither can I say I'm a non-believer as there's plenty of times I've asked for help or forgiveness (with the promise of "never doing it again").
For me, it's a time to appreciate and be thankful for family and friends and get together - for many of us this year (thanks to the Chinese government), this will not be possible.
When living in China, I had wonderful support from the LHG and her side of our family and our friends in Chongqing (including several expats) to celebrate the day - presents given, a "tree" in our house and a far from traditional dinner...... More of a buffet deal with Chinese dishes, British dishes and the odd Swedish dish (from a good friend and Head Chef at the Holiday Inn at the time). It was a get together and always lots of fun.
Similarly in HH, we've had the same format and fortunate enough the friends and neihbours had the same view when we've managed to spend Christmas there - I do miss it.... Perhaps next year.
As for the UK, there's the traditional "Full Christmas Dinner" at "Mam's" - and we're lucky to have it..... Be thankful for family, despite the odd Muppet - we only have to deal with some once a year!!
As a tradition going for some 35+ year, my Mam and I will watch one of two movies on Christmas Eve (unfortunately, due to work I've missed the odd few). This year is a definite... Just need to agree on the selection.
Yes, sad I know but it's between: -
It's a Wonderful Life (1946).
A Christmas Carol (Scrooge) 1951 - The original and the best.
For those of you who "can't be arsed" or "hate Christmas", come on - have a thought. You can ignore the commercialism and enjoy, appreciate and be thankful for friends and family..... and why not lob out a light or two?
All the very best to you all anyway - let's all hope 2021 is a better one!!

It's going to be easy to ignore the commercialism of Christmas where I am, lockdown is going to be extended into January!

As usual, I took a trip down to Bluport and Market Village to look at the Christmas Lights. As always, first class. We also ate at the MV Chang Festival. Food was great value money, but I've never seen it so quiet.

Well it shouldn't be a big surprise considering these Covid times and very difficult to enter the country.
