Insurance requirements for entering Thailand

Post by fabman »

I'm currently on a retirement visa ( which expires next month) but set to come back to Thailand in a couple of weeks ( I've got a re entry permit)
Can anyone please confirm what insurance cover is required.
I'm not sure if I need the government insurance for 30 days ( 100 thousand dollars coverage) or private insurance for 1 year (400 thousand dollars coverage) or both, when i enter Thailand.
I've looked on the embassy website, but it's not clear ( maybe it's me 😁 )
If anyone knows or has been through the process please let me know, Thanks.

Oh mate - are you hanging your hat strictly on the fact that you have a re entry permit and that is going to allow you to return to Thailand? If so you are going to have a big surprise. There is a longish list of requirements now (insurance being one of them) that includes covid testing, quarantine, and on and on and on.

Have you got all that sorted out?

You need minimum 1 year insurance worth 400,000 THB plus 40,000 THB outpatient coverage. On top you will need Certificate of Entry (COE) which I'm confident the embassy website will tell you the requirements to obtain that.

Regarding the insurance, it does depend whether you're on an 'OA' visa or an 'O'. An 'O' visa (converted for the reason of retirement) does not require insurance.

You’ll just need the mandatory insurance that covers Covid up to $100,000, plus of course all the other hoops you need to jump through!!

If going in on a O-A visa you need a specific insurance certificate showing cover for US$100k or equivalent Thai cover.
Plus a Covid RT/PCR swab test with certificate in English and must do quarantine as well as follow the steps in the COE process. I have just done it all.
