Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
Tentacles are spreading out more.
Besides the below I'm told there are 3 new cases in Rayong today and a few in Chonburi. All apparently associated with this new Pathum Thani market outbreak.

A Pathum Thani market was infected with Covid-19 from Samut Sakhon and has spread the disease to other provinces, according to a government spokeswoman.
Apisamai Srirangson, of the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said on Monday that Covid-19 cases linked to Samut Sakhon were first confirmed in Pathum Thani on Dec 22.
The carriers were mobile food vendors who had visited a seafood market in Samut Sakhon.
From Jan 4 to 13, disease control workers tested 3,432 people at Pornpat market in Thanyaburi district of Pathum Thani, part of outer northern Bangkok, and 45 of them, or 1.31%, tested positive for Covid-19, Dr Apisamai said.
The market had been closed but reopened on Jan 16.
On Jan 30, a Myanmar woman selling vegetables at the market had reported losing her sense of smell and taste. She tested positive for Covid-19 on Feb 7.
Active case finding then began, with 1,333 people at the market tested from Feb 9 to 13, and 175 of them were positive. This time the infection rate rose to 13.13% of tested people, Dr Apisamai said.
Pornpat market is enclosed but the building is not airconditioned. Most infected people work in the middle of the market. It has a low roof and ventilation is poor. Vendors tend to remove their face masks when it is hot, the spokeswoman said.
The market was on Friday ordered closed for five days, and is due to reopen on Wednesday. Health officials advise people who visited the market from Feb 9-13 to observe their health closely and visit a doctor or hospital if they notice any symptoms of Covid-19.
Dr Apisamai said many new Covid-19 cases had been linked to the market. They included 164 in Pathum Thani, seven in Nakhon Nayok, three in Phetchaburi, two each in Saraburi and Bangkok and one each in Ayutthaya, Ang Thong, Nakhon Ratchasima and Phrae.
On Sunday, Pathum Thani province reported 50 new Covid-19 infections, all found through active testing in communities - 37 Thais, eight Myanmar and five Lao people.

HOTEL THREATENS TO SUE AFTER NIGHTMARISH QUARANTINE REVIEW GOES VIRAL
His journey began like any other traveler who arrived in Thailand amid the coronavirus pandemic. Dunyawit Phadungsaeng landed at Suvarnabhumi, got on the bus headed to a quarantine hotel, and probably felt even a little excitement.
But the experience at Ambassador City Jomtien Hotel soon took a nightmarish turn – Dunyawit would later call it “the worst 14 days of my life.” In the order of inconvenience, his stay reportedly included a Wi-Fi network that didn’t reach his room, a bed sheet with suspicious black spots, water dripping down from the ceiling, armies of cockroaches, and even bugs inside his food.
And that may not even be the end of it – the hotel management is threatening to take unspecified legal action after Dunyawit’s reviews of his ordeal went viral on social media.
“All individuals should cease and desist all actions that damage the Ambassador City Jomtien and violate the laws,” the hotel said in an online statement. “Or else, the Ambassador City Jomtien will be forced to pursue criminal cases to the fullest extent.”

The hotel need to be sued for absurdly trying to defend the indefensible.

Thailand's crazy defamation laws strike again
Again threatening to sue the guest, who this time appears to have posted photographic evidence to support his claim. Another nail in the tourism coffin?
30฿ for a bottle of water and 65฿ for a sachet of coffee. Fleecing the captive audience

The frightening thing is that the hotel will have the law on its side......

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
That is the crazy thing. At a time when tourism is in the gutter, Thai law promotes/supports this type of damage to the industry.
Thankfully, this type of incident is in the minority, and thousands of others have come through SQ and ASQ OK. Problem is, their reports do not go viral.

Its also concerning that they're doing this to their own people.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
My daughter is thanking her lucky stars at the quarantine hotel she was assigned to in Pattaya. It was a 5* hotel and she confirmed that it had everything you would expect. The food was excellent, delivered 3 times a day and free. Regarding water, she said that there was always a case of water in her room (24 bottles) and was asked daily if she needed more water. Unfortunately, she was tested positive (falsely, it seems) so after a week she was whisked off to hospital which she also said, that although it wasn't a hotel, it was comfortable and the food was 'passable'.
Unbelievable that the hotel by their actions is actually highlighting the problem. Phone calls apparently conclude that the hotel is closed and has withdrawn from the SQ scheme.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
Sorry off topic but suing for bad reviews (and winning) is not unique to Thailand in any way. Read one a couple of days ago in the UK. Chap had to pay out £20k for a bad review. Can't find it at mo but below is just one example.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
It is, however, very common in Thailand, more so than elsewhere (what happened in a UK restaurant is irrelevant in this instance).
Also disgusting that it happens with state-enforced quarantine - the govt should be sued for allowing such filthy hotels to be part of their scheme.
Anyway
