new vehicle purchase
Hello,
I am planning on purchasing a new vehicle soon. I am not willing to purchase a used vehicle.
I have met with and spoken to a Mitsubishi salesman recently and the salesman told me that if i paid a 150,000 baht downpayment that i could take the vehicle in 1 week. I went back to the same Mitsubishi salesman after 1 week and the salesman told me that i will need to pay a 175,000 baht downpayment and that i could take the vehicle in another 1 week.
I feel like if i return to the same Mitsubishi salesman in 1 week that the saleman will just raise my downpayment cost and tell me to come back in another week. /frustrating
Any advice that HHAD members can give me?
PM is okay

I bought a Mitsu just over a year ago from the dealership in Pranburi and was told that they cannot give finance to foreigners full stop, this was with a 50% down payment.
What they did do was to ensure they got their non refundable deposit out of me with plenty of "no ploblems" when I enquired about finance. A week or so later they tell me that finance isnt possible with their three chosen finance companies whom I met, this is despite me having a work permit for six years and enough funds in an account to purchase the vehicle out right.
Bottom line - dont believe a word of it!

Same advice as in the UK for any major purchase - get the offer in writing.
We bought a Fortuner from Toyota in Udon about a year ago, they gave an offer in writing which was valid (I think) for 30days.
The biggest annoyance occurred after the deal was complete; we bought on finance following assurances that they could operate direct debit payments.
After completion Toyota sold the finance contract to Tisco who cannot (or more likely will not) take direct debit payments unless you open a bank account with them and then to add insult to injury, Bangkok Bank would not put in place a standing order to Tisco

For sure you'll need a Work Permit or Non- Imm Visa to buy a register a car in your name.
I've purchased 2 cars (1 in my Company Name and 1 in my name).
I didn't have any major problems, and would consider the process almost as quick and easy as buying in hte UK. In fact, if your dealer is a good one, they do all the running around for you, which does make its al very simple.

I bought my Toyota pickup from the Cha Am dealers about 4 years ago, in a part exchange deal for my Kia. They offered a fair price and as Winkie says, did all the running around for me, and met me at the Kasikorn Bank in Hua with the truck and papers to do all the financial stuff; I was buying outright though. In all my dealings with them they have been excellent so I would recommend that particular dealer, although I can't say the same for the new Toyota dealer in Hua Hin, where there has been a problem almost every time I have been there, either with my truck or my wife's car, all regarding the servicing and repairs side of things. It has been that bad that we are both going to the Cha Am one the next time anything needs doing, despite it being an extra 20 minutes drive!
As said above with the WP and proof of address they can put it in your name.Nomad wrote:Did you put the new vehicle in your own name, a company name or a Thai person's name? I would perfer my own name but I think there might be some issues there.
The complete no no on the finance wound me up a little, they'll give it to a Thai who earns 150 dollars a month but not to me as I'm a farang and thus the lowest form of life in the country regardless of my status and income here.

Toytota dealer past the Hin Nam
I was able to get a loan posing as Mr. Farang.
I bought a new car on loan from the owners wife at the Toyota dealer that now across from the Hin Nam and north sort of. But it was at their old location when I actually bought it, back when they were still operating out of a two bay shophouse.
25% down, 4.9% interest 60 months, I had a WP, needed a Thai co-signor then (wife's mom) and they put their farm property as security, car was in my name, the finance manger visited my house and all but was not willing to take it as security, I went on made the payments had some dealer service and traded it in for cash at a dealer in BKK who gave me a good deal even though it was having tranny problems (still under warranty).
Anyway the people who work at the Hua Hin dealership are a fine bunch, and I would do business with them again.
I think I could pull it off again next time but without a cosignor but I think I would need to still put up some collateral.
One thing about the Toyotas is they really hold their market value.
I guess it all depends on their loan policy and customer service policy as well.
