As the number grows, it is no longer news. I don't know if you listen to the Daily Brief, but yesterday's roll call was painful, and the young lady seemed to be missing bits out. I think the number will be high for sometime yet, and hearing the underlying causes, when the actual cause was Covid becomes monotonous.

Thaiger has better details today.

https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/covi ... d-8-deaths (Graphs at link)

2,048 new Covid-19 cases and 8 coronavirus-related deaths were reported today by the Department of Disease Control. The total number of confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic is 57,508. The death toll is now at 148 since the start of the outbreak in Thailand. There are now 25,767 active cases, including 20,461 in hospitals and the other 5,306 being treated in field hospitals. 563 people are in critical condition and 150 patients are on ventilators.

Out of the new cases, 901 were reported in Bangkok. 110 cases were reported in Samut Prakan, which is just southeast of Bangkok. 97 cases were reported in Nonthaburi, a suburb outside Bangkok. 104 cases were reported in Chon Buri and 84 in Chiang Mai.

The new Covid-related fatalities include…

61 year old man from Pathum Thani who had diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.
45 year old man in Bangkok died who had no pre-existing conditions. The cause of death was acute kidney failure.
24 year old Thai man from Udon Thani who was diagnosed with lymphoma.
92 year old man from Chaiyaphum who was diagnosed with heart disease.
63 year old man from Yala who had been suffering from chronic kidney disease.
52 year old woman from Bangkok who was diagnosed with hyperthyroid and high blood pressure
57 year old woman from Bangkok who suffered from spinal disk herniation.
60 years old man from Bangkok who had high blood pressure.

Recently, there has been a number of clusters around the country, according to deputy spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Natapanu Nopakun, who gives the CCSA report in English.

“In Bangkok, there had been at least 5 small clusters popping up in the past days and each of those 5 clusters had at least 50 cases of Covid-positive persons.”

Natapanu says many of the new Covid-19 patients were infected by family members.

In other related news, the province of Surat Thani, including the 3 Gulf islands of Koh Samui, Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao, have imposed similar closures of business to the ones in Bangkok. The announcement says that you must do quarantine if you travel from a red zone. Residents are also being asked to “stay home from 10pm-4am”.

Could be a PR stunt(''even the PM gets fined so be warned" etc)

If true, it would be a great way to get the message across

The daily charts are looking like scores from sporting events. Soon we'll have offsite betting on who will have the highest score per day, week, month. In a bit of reverse perverseness, the lowest score will win and the winners will get to live another day.

Dissension and cracks forming in the ivory castle?

Health minister Anutin throws Prayut under the bus in public self-defense
Thailand’s Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul defended his record in a late night Facebook post on Monday by saying that all major decisions were made by the prime minister and that his ministry had to carry out government policies.

Anutin had come under criticism over the last fortnight after the third wave of the pandemic has seen tens of thousands infected since April 1.

One of his party’s ministers was also implicated in the spread of the disease, accused by the public of visiting entertainment parlors, catching Covid-19, and not revealing his personal timeline in a transparent manner.

Anutin has also come under criticism for the country’s poor vaccination program which has seen the country lag behind other regional neighbors due to perceived inaction. As a result the public health minister has been under fire from the public with a petition calling for his resignation garnering more than 100,000 signatures.

Anutin defended his conduct late Monday and said that all major decisions had come from the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration which is shared by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha.

Another daily record of 15 coronavirus deaths Tuesday

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... hs-tuesday

Thailand on Tuesday reported 15 new coronavirus deaths, setting a new daily record for the third time in four days during a growing third wave of infections that has prompted new shutdowns in Bangkok and other areas.

The Health Ministry also reported 2,179 new coronavirus cases, bringing total confirmed infections to 59,687 and fatalities to 163.

The country for months had suppressed the virus, but a new outbreak emerged several weeks ago.

In response, the government has ordered parks, gyms, cinemas and day-care centres in the capital Bangkok, the epicentre of the latest wave of infections, to shut from April 26 until May 9.

It has also introduced a fine of up to 20,000 baht for not wearing masks in public, with even the prime minister falling foul of this rule.

But unlike last year, malls and restaurants have been allowed to operate with earlier closing times, fuelling concerns this could quickly trigger more Covid-19 clusters and prompting calls for the resignation of the country's health minister.
