That may be so, but in the modern world the leaders of most civilized countries would not come out with statements such as "no jabs for foreigners", or "blacks at the back of the queue", or "non-natives do not get priority", or "whites get it after us" which is effectively what they've said here. The xenophobia here is of epic proportions - the virus doesn't care about ethnicity or where you were born.StevePIraq wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 10:11 am That would apply to most countries not just Ting Tong Land.

I agree but never so obvious and repetitive as here in Thailand. Many of the ministers are not fit for the job. i.e. Anutin the engineer in charge of public health!!

It is not only Thailand that is like this, most Asian countries are as disjointed and xenophobic, possibly with the exception of Singapore who see foreigners as contributing to the well being and growth of the economy.
I was working in Indonesia recently and foreigners are considered irrelevant, and not considered in any policies.
Thailand does not seem to understand that we all spend considerable $$$ living her, but that is totally ignored.

Well I won't be encouraging any relatives or friends to come to Thailand until there's some indication that the largest possible number of foreign residents have been vaccinated.

This kind of iced the cake for me. I've been here just over fifteen years and have slowly come to the realization of what a horrible mistake it was.
My bad.

It would be interesting to hear how Thais are being treated in other countries. I know dozens of Thais in the UK. They have simply taken their place in the queue with everybody else and have been vaccinated when their turn has come around. No discrimination because because of race or colour.
I presume the US is similar because I see Thais can book vaccination holidays to the US (although only certain states).

I presume most other countries are similar to the UK in this regard. It's not really an issue at the moment, however, since hardly anyone of any nationality has been vaccinated in Thailand. Well, apart from the junta and the royal family, of course.Big Boy wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 11:48 am It would be interesting to hear how Thais are being treated in other countries. Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
I do wonder about that actually. What was the demographic of those vaccinated in Samut Sakhon? The Burmese were blamed for the outbreak. Did they vaccinate the Burmese, or ignore them and vaccinate Thais only? Is that why Samut Sakhon regularly still features in the top 10?dtaai-maai wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 12:02 pm hardly anyone of any nationality has been vaccinated in Thailand.

I think the only thing you can be certain of, is that if there’s an illogical way for them to organise the vaccine programme - they’ll find it!!

Does it not make anybody else wonder, why, if they did a mass vaccination in Samut Sakhon, they are still 6th in the 3rd Wave confirmed cases league table?

I would think perhaps a spill over from Bangkok just like Samut Prakan and other places adjoining Bangkok, plus migrant flow. The place is filled with fish canning factories and the like and I would think the flow of cheap labour is a significant part of it.

Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
There were 40,000 Thai citizens living in the UK and that was 10 years ago so probably double that now.
All these were/are being vaccinated in the normal course of events along with the rest of the population. Absolutely no discrimination as it should be. It's also the norm in many other western countries.
The government states there are NO plans to vaccinate foreigners until they have a surplus of vaccines which won't be this year.
Another example of xenophobic Thailand.

Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
I think it's been said many times that the vaccines don't prevent becoming infected, but do largely prevent serious illness. This is one reason why many foreigner/Thai mixed families are going to have problems when only the Thai members are vaccinated. Especially when the foreigner may be in one of the at risk groups.Big Boy wrote:Does it not make anybody else wonder, why, if they did a mass vaccination in Samut Sakhon, they are still 6th in the 3rd Wave confirmed cases league table?

In the US there are a dozen states where anyone, including tourists of any nationality, can get a vaccine. in most states you can just walk up to a vaccine center, Walmart, Pharmacy, etc., show an ID, passports are accepted, and get vaccinated, free.
The mayor of Bangkok has announced that everyone in the 90,000 occupant slum area around Rama 4 will be vaccinated immediately and taught how to protect themselves. They aim to vaccinate 3,000 people daily.
