Covid cases at Hua Hin pineapple plant pass 400

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... t-pass-400

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN: Forty-five new Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in Prachuap Khiri Khan, 34 of them from a cluster at a canned pineapple factory in Hua Hin district, raising the total in the factory past 400.

The 34 new infections were found during mass testing among people in at-risk groups at a quarantine facility in the compound of the Dole Thailand factory in tambon Nong Phlab of Hua Hin district. This brought the total number of cases at the factory to 413, said Dr Suriya Khuharat, chief of the Prachuap Khiri Khan provincial public health office.

Another new case reported on Saturday was linked to a cluster at the Surachai Poultry Food factory in tambon Hin Lek Fai in Hua Hin. This raised the total at the chicken processing plant to 131.

Dr Suriya said the two factories were still operating their production lines as normal as the outbreak had not affected their products.

He also expressed confidants that authorities would be able to keep the Covid situation in the province under control.

Other new infections reported on Saturday included three people infected by family members in Bang Saphan district and one in Pran Buri who had contracted the disease from someone in Ban Lat district of Phetchaburi.

For a vaccination station, the people waiting don't look very spaced out.
It doesn't give much of a sense of safety.

Is it just me or does anyone else think that they seem to be just letting the Covid infections spread unchecked at the fruit canning factory? I even saw an article with a quote from someone almost boasting about the fact that production was unaffected.

So instead of shutting the place down and putting the workers into isolation so they can't spread it to each other any more, it seems they're just letting them continue to work and live alongside each other as before, with all that entails for the continued proliferation of the virus.

That was the same approach that Singapore took with migrant workers who caught it. They locked them in their camps until it had passed through. It meant no/low risk of passing it on to others in the outside community

Here, if the workers are living in compounds in the factory, then keeping them there working and living also means no/low chance of passing it on to others in hua hin outside the factory. The only Thais who see them are presumably doctors.

^^ I think there are also Thai workers at Dole. Today's count of 41 includes 4 Thais. Most days include Thais. They must also be testing because very often the numbers include those with and without symptoms. For today 27 had various symptoms while 14 did not have any.

Just to complete today's count of 42 for HH the extra one person probably was infected in Pathum Thani but went home to isolate in Pranburi before having symptoms.

According to the TAT website linked to below, PrachuapKhiriKhan is in the Orange Zone, and as from June 21:
In the orange and yellow zones, all types of sports venues are allowed to resume normal hours and are permitted to hold sporting events without any audiences.

I wonder if that means gyms can re-open?

Has anyone seen an announcement from the PKK authorities yet? There were reports that there would be one today.

Individual inspections took place by the Army (I think) to determine whether gyms could re-open 2 weeks ago.

My son's place is too small to come under the spotlight, but he went to the Tessebahn to check. They told him providing there was decent ventilation, and he stuck to the usual rules (temperature check, social distancing, cleanliness, etc), he could re-open.
