Thai Old Age Pension

Post by PeteC »

Under the old government there was a system where people over 60 could sign up and receive 300 baht per month, paid semi annually in a lump sum of 1,800 Baht.

I learned today that this entire pension plan has now stopped dead in it's tracks, with no notification to the aged and nothing in the Thai newspapers that anyone has read.

Would be interested if anyone else knows anything about this, or can pick up some news during your discussions with Thai's you know.

I have a feeling that if it was a Thaskin instituted plan, the new government has simply dumped it saying the hell with the old people who need it, or they are broke. Pete

Pete, I never knew there was such a thing, but when I call my partner later I will ask her. Her family includes the village head and they tend to be well informed about this sort of thing.

I just asked my wife.
She says that her Mum never ever got the 300B anyway, despite registering for it correctly. People in BKK scimming off the top. The mother's well into her 60s now and is a Buddhist nun. Don't these idiots in BKK have any respect?
If that was a Thaksin initiative, I'm not surprised that the Thai family never voted for him. It's starting to make sense now.
My wife hadn't heard of the 300B being done away with. Then again, she's not been watching too much telly over the past couple of days.
BTW, it's been the same story with her father. Now I'm getting the version that it might not have been BKK, but "high people" in HH scimming off the top. Who knows and more particularly who's going to follow that up? Certainly not the Thais or me.

I found out first hand as my partners step Mother stopped getting her allotment a few months ago when it was due, as did her other old friends apparently. Pete
