You've got good advice and I'll add my similar advice for what it's worth. It took us 3 years to decide we wanted to live here, and my wife is Thai. She lived 20 years in the states but still had family here and she was the one that took longer to decide. Living here is very different than visiting, even if you have been coming for years. The government, language, different way of life, isn't for everyone and only a long time here would have you learn about it. Right now with covid there are a lot of long term rentals available at good prices. My advice, again for what it is worth, is don't sell all out at your current home. Take a year and rent here to see what you think. Good luck whatever your decision.
The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.

Another thing to add regarding buying property here - it is nothing like the UK so don't expect to sell in a hurry if your situation changes. There are hundreds, if not thousands of houses/villas/condos for sale in Hua Hin, it is a buyers market and will be for a very long time.

Thanks again all for the advice And to migrant & buksida for the added comments.

I look at this forum quite often just to see what’s going on in HH and Thailand. Having read your various threads etc… it seemed to me that you guys know HH and Thailand as good as any ex-pats - so it was your initial reaction to the question that was always going to steer me in the right direction.

It looks like the best thing to do is sit back and see how things develop here and in Thailand. The kids are still getting a great education here & there are glimmers of hope that Johnson might struggle to get some of measures in. This isn’t a political thing for us but there seems to be a lot of people reluctant to go back to anything like normal and the government take advantage of that.

Point taken re renting first and keeping UK property on. It’s clear from looking at the property sites that the Hua Hin property market won’t run away from us and there will continue to be lots of choice for buyers/renters.Really valid point about the ability to sell in HH also.

Thank again all.

Hi CwinUK,

I live in Hua Hin and I'm returning to Thailand in a few days, after a holiday in the UK. I'm just a bit surprised at your political analysis of the UK. Everything's open here in England, the economy is picking up and there seems to be a good level of healthy democracy.
I think living in Thailand is perfectly manageable for foreigners, but if you are looking to escape a tyrannical UK government, you may be disappointed!

Hi Robinhood,

Wouldn’t disagree with your comments regarding opening up & the economy. My concern is that parliament is not functioning as it should. There’s no emergency any more so the Emergency Powers should go. I’m not sure how they can get them to operate but Vaccine Passports are a slippery slope to Digital ID and Social Credit Scores. I don’t think this government is being honest and transparent with the people and think their will be more u-turns and deception to come - and I’ve voting for them all my adult life.

I’m under no illusion about Thai politics & governance - just saying better the devil you know!

That is good advice caller, if he doubtls the honesty of the UK government he will have a nightmare in Thailand. I have a Thai wife and she frequently comments that living here is far bettter than Thailand, especially the NHS.
