What actual research and testing that has gone into this is not clear, or even mentioned. Regardless, it's worth posting to at least put the name of the substance into people's minds in case indeed useful.

Cabinet approves green chiretta for Covid patients

The cabinet on Tuesday approved the use of green chiretta (in Thai, Fah Talai Jone) to treat asymptomatic Covid patients after the Corrections Department reported success giving it to infected prison inmates.

Deputy government spokeswoman Rachada Dhnadirek said green chiretta contains andrographolide, a substance that protects cells from the virus and reduces its multiplication. The Corrections Department gave green chiretta to about 11,800 infected inmates, she said, and 99.02% of them recovered.

According to the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, patients should consume 180 milligrammes of andrographolide per day, or 60mg per meal, she said.

According to an article published on the Thaiger website 10 days ago, the scientific evidence for this may be shaky.
even the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine director general Dr Amporn Benjaponpitak has reservations. Dr Amporn says that Fah Talai Jone can’t provide any real protection against the virus.

Obviously it's just a distraction from the lack of vaccines and joined up thinking. Of course there'll be higher prices and profits for the producers and sellers.

Seems to be a steady uptick of around 1,000 cases per day aside from at the weekends and all the govt holidays when nothing much gets done here.

Cambodia to impose Covid-19 lockdowns in areas bordering Thailand

https://www.bangkokpost.com/world/21566 ... g-thailand

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia is set to launch a lockdown in eight provinces bordering Thailand from midnight on Thursday, in a bid to prevent the spread of the Delta variant of the coronavirus in the Southeast Asian country.

Prime Minister Hun Sen signed an order late on Wednesday for the lockdown, which bans people from leaving their homes, gathering in groups and conducting business, except for those involved in operating airlines.

"The temporary lockdown... aims to prevent community-based transmission of the new Covid Delta variant," Hun Sen said in the order posted on Facebook.

Border checkpoints with Thailand will also be closed except to allow for the transport of goods and in emergencies, Hun Sen said, adding the lockdown was due to run until Aug 12.

The provinces affected are Koh Kong, Pursat, Battambang, Pailin, Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear and Siem Reap.

Cambodia managed to largely contain the virus for most of last year, but an outbreak first detected in late February has driven up total cases to 75,152, with 1,339 deaths.

Neighbouring Thailand has also faced a stubborn outbreak driven by the Delta variant, which was first detected in India, and has repeatedly reported record numbers of daily infections in recent weeks.

Just to add to that about the situation in Cambodia, Pete:

Travel within Cambodia out of those 8 provinces is also banned.
Also a 9 pm-3 am curfew in all major cities and towns nationwide.
All bars, massage places, dining-in, etc. also closed - all of these measures initially for the next 2 weeks.

70% of targeted 10 million people (out of a population of 16 million) already vaccinated, remainder to be completed by November.

Vaccine free for everyone, with little bureaucracy for foreigners.
I turned up at the local referral hospital with only my passport. Was back out again with my first jab within 25 minutes.

No surprise here, but.........................

Phuket goes into partial lockdown. Apart from a few exceptions, no-one is allowed to enter Phuket by land, sea or air from 3rd to 16th August. People arriving internationally via the Phuket Sandbox aren’t affected. They are also allowed to leave.

Thailand builds Covid-19 hospital in Bangkok airport amid surge in cases
Story by Reuters

Some 1,800 cardboard beds are prepared at a Covid-19 coronavirus field hospital inside a warehouse at the Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok on July 27, 2021
Thai volunteers on Wednesday turned a cargo warehouse at Bangkok's Don Muang Airport into a 1,800-bed field hospital for Covid-19 patients with less severe symptoms, as the country deals with its biggest outbreak to date.

The Southeast Asian nation reported a daily record of 16,533 new cases, plus 133 new deaths on Wednesday, bringing the total accumulated cases to 543,361 and 4,397 deaths.
Workers drilled walls for toilet installations and set up beds and blankets.
"This is a level 1+ field hospital where it can receive a large number of patients, who have less severe symptoms," Rienthong Nanna, director of Mongkutwattana Hospital, told Reuters.
"But if patients' conditions deteriorate, they will be moved to our other field hospital called Pitak Rachan (Protect the King) Field Hospital," he added.

Rienthong, a retired major-general and an ultra-royalist leader, said the field hospital was not up and running yet as more preparations were needed.
The number of infections will continue to climb and more field hospitals will be needed, he added.
Rienthong and volunteers held a small ceremony on the occasion of King Maha Vajiralongkorn's 69th birthday to unofficially inaugurate their third field hospital named "Tai Rom Prabaramee", which means "under the glory of His Majesty".

The spike in Covid-19 cases in the capital has put pressure on the city's health system and the government has faced public criticism over a slow rollout of vaccines.
Thailand aims to inoculate 50 million people by the end of the year, but so far only 5.6% of its more than 66 million population are fully vaccinated, while 19.2% have received at least one dose
