Vaccines - Covid 19
Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
Same in Phuket where over 70% of the population fully vaccinated yet number of cases and number of hospitalizations are increasing every day
Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
I'm not disputing what you may have read about projected mortality rates but could you show the source.Big Boy wrote: ↑Sun Aug 15, 2021 3:25 pmYes, that is 100% correct, but the mortality rate in Bangkok is also rising. Additionally, they are threatening 800 deaths a day if they ease restrictions tomorrow, and 500 deaths a day if the restrictions stay as they are.
In a nation currently vaccinating in excess of half a million people daily (excluding weekends and holidays), why are numbers rising?
Don't get me wrong, I'm one of the few who thinks the vaccination roll-out is going pretty well, but the results of vaccination are not as I would have hoped.
[Edit] Projected mortality rate was under-stated. Corrected now.
I am neither a Covid denier, anti vaxxer or a conspiracy theorist but I'm starting to think that this current shower of shoite will do or say anything to keep the huddled masses under their tenuous control.

The initial statement came from the Thai News Reports site. Here is the accompanying graphic:
The latter bit about projections has been widely reported over the last couple of days. When I come across it next, I will post a link. However, mortality rates by region, etc are reported daily in many publications, I'm sure you will manage to find it for yourself. The forecast will be reported again at tomorrow's CCSA meeting, and I'm sure will be repeated in the subsequent CCSA brief as justification.

Thanks, but I would rather see an independent health experts report than some balloon from the Covid task Force repeating what he has been told to say by the likes of Ana "Rin Tin Tin".
Not having a go at you, just my perspective.
Edit...Especially in light of renewed protests in BKK. The politics of fear.

Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
Could be a little crowded at HHH tomorrow because as well as vaccinating the registered group they're also inviting walk-in from 11am for over 60s and vulnerable groups.
Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
Of course, you are correct, but unfortunately we have what we have. I agree, some of this is the politics of fear.
I'm actually delighted to see the way Thailand is making great strides towards vaccination, but then I become equally dismayed when I see the daily numbers going in the wrong direction. Certainly Hua Hin's vaccination efforts are moving forward very quickly - I was amazed at the Tsunami of people going towards the vaccine walk-in centre last Friday morning, and I believe they are trying wholeheartedly to achieve Oct 1st opening (not saying I agree with that).
We are also under very stringent restrictions at the moment - similar restrictions wiped Covid off the face of Thailand a year ago. The situation this year is just not improving.
It does keep crossing my mind that with the measures in place + vaccination drive, are the daily numbers correct? Then I look at the facts. A year ago, I knew of nobody that had contracted Covid. Now I know a few who have had it, including 2 close family members (latest today
). Fortunately, I've known no fatalities. What I think I'm saying is there's a lot of information out there, we have to sort out our own version of the truth, and it isn't easy.

Unfortunately with this lot we can do neither.

I can see turbulent times ahead with, and Post Covid.

Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
If this is meant to be Bkk, then I don't believe it. It's been a long time since only 7.6m lived there and even then, that's the official figures, the reality is clearly different. Just think of all the food sellers, most of whom won't be on any official stats, yet alone qualify for social security. Then there are all the illegal immigrants, such groups regularly feature as one of the main covid problem areas.
And at the start of the vaccine programme, AZ wasn't really available, so sinovac was the order of the day, hence the incidents of infections and deaths (tragically and needlessly) amongst the medical profession who had no other choice. Hence their recent boosters of pfizer.

Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
Yes, it was reported as Bangkok. I've no idea what the actual population is, but there has also been a regular stream of people from outside of the capital visiting for vaccine - I guess they're counted in the numbers as well.
You make a good point about the availability of AZ in the beginning, although with the emphasis on Bangkok recently, earlier Sinovac numbers have probably become insignificant.
Your point about Sinovac for the medical profession is also close to home. I mentioned 2 close family members have caught it. Both are front line medics, and yes they had Sinovac x 2 + 1 had had a 3rd dose of AZ. Although they tested positive, they've suffered little more than a mild cold, with the first being allowed home yesterday. I'm guessing, although it didn't prevent infection, Sinovac decreased the symptoms.
[Edit] I Googled it:

Bangkok's 2021 population is now estimated at 10,722,815. In 1950, the population of Bangkok was 1,360,000. Bangkok has grown by 183,400 since 2015, which represents a 1.74% annual change.

Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
Lol. I googled it too. Even the 2010 census showed 8.2+ million.
So it's exceeded 7.7 million for 11 years or more!

Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
Its actually over 14m for the Greater Metropolitan area and I have somewhere, in my saved docs, an article that claimed the true population was over 18m.

Re: Hua Hin Hospital vaccination queue moved yesterday evening! What vaccine though?
Thanks, that's where I got my info. It is today (16th) and we're still not going. I had hoped they would have been able to ditch the Chinese jab by now, but clearly not. I've read that more evidence is appearing in studies that Sinovac probably has little effect on the Delta variant, so any double vax which includes SV is just like only having a single jab.hhinner wrote: ↑Sun Aug 15, 2021 5:44 pmDannie Boy wrote: ↑Sun Aug 15, 2021 10:55 amThe only thing I’ve seen on this Forum is that the first dose is Sinovac, followed 3-4 weeks later by Astra Zeneca.404cameljockey wrote: ↑Sun Aug 15, 2021 10:48 am "Latest vaccine information, August 14, 2021 at 4:45 p.m.

Re: Hua Hin Hospital vaccination queue moved yesterday evening! What vaccine though?
Although it may not be (m)any bodies first choice, if you take the Sinovac vaccine, you at least get the AZ jab 3-4 weeks later - if you wait for AZ or Pfizer then it could be months, unless you’re able to register at one of the Bangkok providers that may give it sooner? At least we have a choice!!404cameljockey wrote: ↑Mon Aug 16, 2021 8:06 amThanks, that's where I got my info. It is today (16th) and we're still not going.
