I think the problem is that every other bright idea that is coming out of the Government at the moment is being prefixed Sandbox, and involves people proving they've had 2 jabs before they are allowed to fart. Everybody is trying to 2nd guess what format that proof of vaccine will take.

When asked at BCCT they pointed out that the appointment card for the 2nd dose states that you have been given the first dose and this appointment is for the 2nd dose.
The doc says that you'll get confirmation after having the 2nd dose. "That's all the proof you need". He also said 'off the record' that this idea that is being talked about. i.e. entry to restaurants etc. is not going to happen. It's just the current hype!!

And just for fun, it does also have a QR code!

My fear is whilst I agree that the appointment cart states it is your proof of vaccination, I look at it, and it would be so easy forge. If I think that, then the Thais who are expert copiers will already be making plans to sell them.

The appointment cards are not rugged enough for the purpose, and will start falling apart in a few weeks if people have to use them for this purpose.

Moves are already being made to insist on proof of vaccination. The one close to my heart is football - stadium entry will not be permitted without proof - that one is now written in stone.

Yes, the practicality of a restaurant owner who has been repeatedly strangled for cash over the last 18 months is not going to turn customers away for want of a piece paper is not going to happen in this land where laws are made and immediately ignored.

The penalties for not enforcing the rules could be severe. I now have 7 fully vaccinated relatives (5 in UK), who have caught Covid.

Not according to the Bangkok Post:

Restaurants accept dine-in rules
Restaurant operators say they are receptive to Public Health Ministry plans for reopening, which involve tough Covid-19 protocols including a requirement for diners to show vaccination proof.

If this is the case, our family won't be eating out again this year ... neither will about 63 million Thais. :| :banghead:

Not sure what point you are trying to make. Are you saying that the vaccine is useless?

Edit: Have these people caught Covid pre or post vaccine?

I'm guessing that these "restaurant operators" are part of the major chains. Do you really believe that the "Mom N Pop" small restaurateurs are going to strictly adhere to the rules just like the mom n pop shops adhered to the sale of alcohol ban last year?

Yes, but TIT. Laws seem to be made to be ignored. Who is going to enforce it?

There will be a couple of poor restaurants who maybe don't pay enough tea money splashed over the headlines for breaking the rules, but we all know what will really happen.
Under the scheme, restaurants that can follow the guidelines would get signage from the government to show their restaurant's safety, and they are not subject to closure if new waves of the pandemic occur.
So we're probably only talking the better restaurants, charging non-Thai prices, and many 'Thai' eating establishments will be excluded.

Yep, you've got to hope a little common sense prevails here ... but then again, this is Thailand.

I'm most certainly not saying the vaccine is useless - 4 of the relatives are 70+. If not already vaccinated, some of them would have probably died. They have all caught it post vaccine. 2 relatives are about a week past recovery, and 2 on the road to recovery.

My point is, it is seen as 'safe' to open up to fully vaccinated people only. If vaccinated and unvaccinated people are allowed to mix, the risk of infection is much greater. We live in a country where laws are ignored, or compliance with the law can be purchased. I just fear for the success of these rules. Of course, if it's prefixed 'Sandbox' it is bound to work.

But what’s the alternative, keep everything closed until Covid disappears? We all know how rules and laws are designed to be broken here, but they have to try and get this to work, otherwise there is no way out?

I see it as just another money grab for the "police" who can now raid restaurants (that haven't paid their tea money) in Bangkok, Pattaya, and possibly even Hua Hin to check for vaccination status (as they do with bars during the booze ban).

Re: Vaccines - Covid 19

Maybe this is way too simplistic but it does seem to me that the various vaccines available in Thailand are becoming more accessible, even if the under 50's/40's may have to travel to BKK. So is there any excuse for remaining unvaccinated? Open up the country ,internally first, and "tough titty" if you catch it. You had a choice! The unvaccinated younger generation may well be super spreaders but if vaccinated your chances of becoming seriously ill or hospitalized are greatly reduced. Just putting it out there, may not float with a few members but I would be interested to hear what you think.

Edit: Not sure if this has already been asked. Are there any figures available to reflect how many vaccinated people have died or been hospitalized with serious Covid 19?

I agree with you up to a point. However, the vaccine needs to be a little more accessible first. I still have 3 family members who can't get a sniff yet, but hopefully, if roll-out continues the way it has been, they will get their chance also within 6 weeks. I've even tried buying the vaccine for them a few times, but just can't get it for them.

90% of the people living down here at the arse end of the province haven't had a sniff either. It's all very well rolling out new laws that may work in Bangkok - but the rest of the country gets shafted by them. Luckily the cops don't care out of the towns!
