I'm glad to see they made the distinction between larger restaurants and those that are open-air, smaller, food carts, etc.

IMHO making restaurants administer rules about vaccination and/or testing would be a nightmare for both proprietors and customers, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I imagine, like the sign in sheets, it will be ignored and no enforcement.

Reference the daily falling numbers. Is it the numbers driving the agenda, or the agenda driving the numbers? I wouldn't put it past these people for a second to massage the numbers to fit their economic opening plans.

The stats from the junta have always been questionable. It was obvious that their testing limit was just over the 20K per day level and the increasing fatalities figure somewhat backs that up suggesting numbers are much higher than what they're reporting.

It is also pretty obvious that these extreme lockdown/curfew measures don't really work as cases are still surging when the country is supposed to be in full lockdown. The Bangkokians will ignore the rules anyway so why bother, just open it up and let em get on with it. The majority of Thais have been and are pretty sensible when it comes to personal precautions.

In the attached graphic on the situation today we can see that cases are now on a downward trend. But if we look at the graph for testing (7 day average, as at 2 days ago) we can see that numbers of tests are going down also. Any connection between the two?

The deaths graph is still trending upwards.

I hear this repeatedly, and I don't know if the numbers are true or not. However, if they are lying, they're not very good at it. In a few months the country has gone from a very respectable 170 in the league table of of Covid cases to the current position of 29th worst. If they were lying, surely we'd still be about 160th or why bother?

Throughout the piece people have been shouting liar, but my own experiences reflect what is being reported i.e. (a list follows for information of Tapatalk users):
  • Up until Christmas I'd heard of nobody getting ill with Covid, and the country's reporting reflected the same thing.
  • It wasn't until the Maya incident that I started hearing of people I knew had been infected, Locally numbers started rising rapidly.
  • I now know dozens who have been infected as the country's stats skyrocket.
  • Nobody I know has thankfully succumbed to the illness. This is also reflected by the country's excellent recovery rate. If you look at the numbers, Thailand's motality rate is around 50% of most countries with a similar infection rate.
  • Current daily mortality rate is quite high, but if you follow the numbers, it takes about 2 weeks for mortality rate to match infection rate, so I expect that to drop within a few days.
It is also pretty obvious that these extreme lockdown/curfew measures don't really work as cases are still surging when the country is supposed to be in full lockdown.
I agree 125%. The difference locally between coming out of the last lockdown and back into the current lockdown were negligible. We are about to come out of some restrictions on Wednesday, and things are pretty much the same. Yes, we keep getting large pockets of infection, but mostly they are easily isolated, and they just put up a fence around them. Certainly it wasn't the curfew that put e.g. the pre-build homes or the local pineapple plant pockets to bed. I don't think the curfew has had any effect whatsoever, and many people are ignoring it anyway.
The Bangkokians will ignore the rules anyway so why bother, just open it up and let em get on with it.
Is this not where we are going in October? From what I saw yesterday, any easing by the weekend Bangkokians has well and truly ended. The Grounds of Memory House were crawling with them yesterday, just like pre-Covid. I was pleased the bridge to the walkway I travel each has has been demolished, putting a moat between us. The main drag through Khao Tao was heaving with Bangkok registered cars.

... meanwhile, thousands of small local businesses like restaurants, bars, bungalow operations, massage, bike rentals, have seen their livelihoods decimated by the junta's draconian measures which have been an utter failure.

I don't think anybody outside of the Government would disagree with that.

And yet again most of the 256 fatalities are not from the critical group.

I notice that the 'green and yellow card' is shown on the infographic but only for 'dark red' provinces. Also noted that it wasn't even mentioned in the briefing.

My thoughts: Not going to happen!

Me too, but on the news announcement yesterday (or the day before), there was what seemed to be a throw away remark that it would be in force BY October.

Anyway, this TAT (who are meant to be our go to source for information) announcement makes no mention of it as far as I can see, so I'm just dropping it for now.
