I tried myself a few days ago to be a computer technician.(manually cleaning the registry) That didn't went well so I needed help. Okay, long story short, impossible to recover Windows OS so a copy got installed which I accepted. Anyone know if a copy Windows OS will be compatible with any Internet security systems and eventually Vpn which I both have paid subscriptions for and used before the Pc collapse :? :)

Yes, it will but you'll keep getting nagged about registering Windows. There are some solutions online to get around this.

If it is win10 you can install new and it will be activated recognizing the hardware. No need copies which are high risk

Before new installation I would look if there is a previous restore point which can be used to set windows back

Thank you both for replying.
I tried myself to restore it but impossible and the same was said by the technical who checked the computer.
Will when I find a good laptop offer purchase new, but hope the current hold a while without security problems.

I have seen that its possible to buy original Windows OS from some reputable computer shops in Thailand and allow me to ask if you know if a new purchased original Windows license (product key) would be possible to install when the OS now is a copy?
Thank you

Why don't you just take it down to Mr Don? He'll sort it all quickly/cheaply.

You can download Windows from M$ - install it, then just pay for the license online if you want a legit version. No need to take the machine anywhere and physical CDs are a thing of the past.

Was the original Windows also a copy? If the original was genuine there should be no trouble to activate the current Windows on the machine provided it's the same version (Home / Pro) as the original.

Thank you for replying. Before I messed up the computer as mentioned in OP it was an original Windows 10 pre installed, but when things went wrong it was impossible to reset the computer and reinstall windows. :| hahuahin

^^ You should be able to activate using the product key on the label on the underside of the laptop (if it's still there), assuming it's the same version of windows.

This should help:

Google Microsoft support activate windows 10

Choose one of the support.microsoft.com links about activation.

I'm biased, but so do I. It will be sorted very quickly, and probably cost you <500฿.

If you go to one of the 'reputable' software companies online, please read their small print. I was looking at legitimising my MS Office, and their prices looked too good to be true. Their wording basically doesn't provide a guarantee, and if your passcode stops working, you need to contact MS direct. Basically, many of them are selling pirated software at a lot more than the going rate for pirated software.

That'll be for a copy or fake activation key, he'll still have to pay quite a whack for a genuine Windows license if the laptop didn't come with one.

Here's what the 'reputable' stores in Thailand are charging:

Win10 will activate itself if no change in hardware.
A SN is required only when the previous installation was illegal.
Original Win10 key is below 20 EUR, why bother with fake.

You can download the original from MS website.
To reinstall you have to boot from a CD or stick.
