TRT and the Democrats

This is one where we'll get an answer. Next Wednesday, May 30, Thai TV will broadcast live the court's decision whether to disolve TRT and/or the Democrats for misdeeds during the last election. Let's see if our votes reflect the judgement? Pete

Politicians are all as bad as each other, however I think the junta will dissolve TRT as part of their hellbent policy to discredit Thaksin and his cronies.

I'm going to vote for nothing.
It dosn't matter how I think about politics in this country. I don't have a vote.
However, the more options the Thai people have, the better.
To take away a party vote is a bit undemocatic, despite how I might feel about it.

I understand where you're coming from LOMU. I was happy to see Buksi's post last night about the new "community relations" office in HH. I hope I live long enough to see an entire bureau of the Government in Bangkok dealing with Farang rights and grievances.

My wife is Thai and until recently she didn't know the difference between politics and a plate of Sum Tam. I've been surprised over the last few weeks to hear her criticise the current government. I immagine she's typical of the slumbering voters who have suddenly woken up. She thinks the current government is doing everything to send Thailand back into the dark ages whereas Thaksin, with all his greed and corruption, was at least moving Thailand forward. I suspect that the majority of Thai people would still support Thaksin even with his faults.

She tells me that this government's latest suggestion is that Thai people go back to wearing clothes similar to what they wore around 100 years ago and to stop copying the 'modern' cultures.

I wonder what the view is of other Thais on this forum. Ask your wives and let us all know.

You are 100% spot on HH. His Majesty spoke about "self sufficiency" and this entire current government has inflated it, misunderstood it and did everything possibly wrong concerning the statement. The Thai's are the Thai's, they are going with the flow here, at least the rank and file. I do hope the 'thinkers' come out of the woodwork soon and make themselves heard in a big way. We were all bitching and moaning on here about Mr. T some months back, but again you are correct with your above observation. Pete

Your missus is correct. The witch who presides over the morals in this country reckons that all Thai women should wear traditional dress once week.
Shame her compadres in the government don't see the world in quite the same light as she does.
She's also made a number of gaffs before and after the above. I can't remember them, because they were so stupid as to defy the imagination.
Then the Thais have got an enlightened Information Minister who controls the internet and all things communicable - maybe he deserves a "dose". The man dosn't even believe in the internet and he's only blocked 5 sites!!!!!
They're all muppets.
A shame really, because this country used to be quite good. I'd reckon the western world is catching up with them, but some in power don't like that.

I'm a Thai currently living in abroad I had lived in Thailand for 4 years for my studies here in Thailand co incidently I came to Thailand when TRT and Thaksin came to Power. From what I had expirienced Thailand had moved forward during that time. It was felt by me and my fellow mates @ Stamford like a New "Thai Renaissance." What I rightnow exirience right now in Thailand from foreign Newspaper Commentaries and lengthy Phone Calls with a few of my friends they say the same what Pete Stated I quote:"His Majesty spoke about "self sufficiency" and this entire current government has inflated it, misunderstood it and did everything possibly wrong concerning the statement." I would like to add that all the Thinkers which Pete has called upon to make their voices heard are being Silenced when they are critical about the current Government though banning and censoring Channels of Communications. I still hope and wish that Pete's call to all Thinkers don't go in vain and actually gets answered and they all get their voices heard Big Time.
