Re: The Rugby Thread

Post by pharvey »

All chaotic at the moment - Covid (and governmental) BS strikes again.....

Countless games postponed, some cancelled entirely. European Rugby Completions bordering farce status - with the likes of France demanding differing visa/clearance for UK/European players to that of South African players for example..... The likes of Sale therefore could be forced into fielding a vastly weakend team - https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/rugby/ ... -1.4768840

Add to that, the shite that is happening with regards to the Six Nations Championship - quite frankly the World's best rugby competition (possibly) outside the RWC.

Supporters banned in Wales and hugely restricted in both Scotland and NI. As such, Wales are looking at playing their "home" games in England where restrictions are not in place. Scotland and NI would likely follow suit - in all fairness, Wales played their two "home" games behind closed doors last year and lost an estimated £13 Million!! This year we have three home games.

In response to the WRU stating that they are looking at options in England (at least Spurs could see some decent sport  ), the Welsh Labour Government have shown their true (obnoxious) colours: -

"Wales' health minister Eluned Morgan has told the Welsh Rugby Union that the Welsh Government will be disappointed if they decide to play home Six Nations matches in England to get around the stricter Covid regulations here.

She has also suggested they would be less inclined to help the Union out financially if they were to head across the Severn Bridge."

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/rug ... d-22659311

Well, I truly hope the Six Nations is not fecked up this year due to Covid, money and despicable politics/politicians....

As always, if and when a Pool is available, I'll set it up - hopefully we'll still have a few that join :D :thumb:

I would join the pool, however I am exempt from wearing a mask but I have had my 3 jabs. Will that be acceptable.

My August-January NFL immersion is almost finished, and southern hemisphere Rugby is kicking off shortly as well. I'm in.

Well, no masks required - but possibly a sense of humour if you're supporting the Lillywhites.... After all, we may all be playing at "your" grounds and keeping the title away from you (again)!! :neener:  :D :D

Les Bleus looking good this year, but who knows what effect the Covid BS is going to have?

Pretty sure Wales and Scotland will be playing their "Home" games in England this year - at least there'll be a crowd!! :cuss: :banghead:

[EDIT] France away is the decider I think - France surely the favorites for the GS, especially at home to both England and Ireland this year.

Hopefully they will play their games at home with a full crowd. There is a month before the first game and hopefully the poisioned dwarf and the Welsh government will have aligned with Boris.
Although it would be an advantage for England for the Welsh and Scottish to play in England and we won it would be a hollow victory. A home game with a crowd of your own supporters is worth a few points IMO.

Well, that's recorded and on the cards for tomorrow...... Unfortunately I chose to watch the Welsh regions embarassing the nation. Cardiff and Ospreys were truly dire in their respective matches.

With regards to Wales and the 6N, after watching the Cardiff and Ospreys games, I'll be sweating the Italy match - forget Ireland who are first up..... God help us against France!
Fitness levels nowhere near where they should be, defence incredibly worrying and very few stand-out players/performances unfortunately..... Sad indeed! 5th place at best this season unless we have a Red BS/Crashappen'esque "miracle"!!! :banghead:

And to rub salt in, Bath are "playing" tomorrow.....I am now going to drown my sorrows.......

[EDIT] Just an additional note on the Cardiff game, once again some dreadful refereeing - zero impact on the result, but a serious looking injury to James Botham caused by a head-on-head contact with Edinburgh’s replacement hooker "clearing out" (and a deserved Red Card IMO) was not even reviewed. Botham was stretchered off after a lengthy stop in play. Just hope he's good to go in the near future - no reports as yet from Cardiff.

There really has to be a good look at the consistency of refereeing all round!

Well, after the first few minutes it did look like things would be DM-esque "interesting"...... The first half was more frustrating than interesting - and desperately so! However, the second half - Hell's Teeth did the match ever kick off. Won't mention the result, but certainly well worth the watch!!

And Bath won!! Scraped it a against a Worcester side down to 14 men... FFS

But hey, I'll take it!! :thumb:

Sorry DM - couldn't help sharing the result on that one!! :neener:
