The Digital Surgery (computer questions/problems here)
Re: The Digital Surgery (computer questions/problems here)
Just a quick question from this tech illiterate person.
I've got Line installed on my phone. Does that mean I can use it to phone/message Thailand and vice versa without a UK SIM card as long as I've got a WiFi connection in the UK?
That seems strange to me but my wife reckons the UK SIM is not necessary unless you have no connection or the person being contacted is not on Line.
Thought I'd need a UK SIM for anything.
Will get one anyway but probably not till the day after my return.
Any comments appreciated.

This needs confirmation from someone else to be sure.....
LINE is linked and registered with your Thai mobile number. If you keep the Thai SIM in your phone it should work fine to message and talk with someone anywhere, from anywhere.
If you take the Thai SIM out and replace it with a UK SIM, you would have to go to Settings in LINE and put in the new UK phone number for it to work IMO.

I’m like you Lomu, a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to IT, but I had Line on my Thai phone and even though I put a UK SIM in my phone I somehow managed to continue using Line - I think it asked me if I wanted to continue using my Thai phone number, but it definitely continued working, so if I could manage it, I’m sure you’ll be able to!!lomuamart wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 3:10 pm Just a quick question from this tech illiterate person.

In addition, we spent weeks in California pre-Covid and never put in USA SIMs. We just turned off any roaming with TRUE. The wife runs a business here and she was constantly going back and forth with customers in Thailand using her LINE account, both message and calling.

Very much the same with Whatsapp which is more common in the UK. As the previous posts point out, as long as you have a connection, they'll carry on working.

When I open a screen, in Win 10,, on my laptop, it is pulled to the left and there's a gap on the right side. This causes me to lose some words on the left margin.
I looked up all the fixes on google and nothing worked.
Any suggestions?

Thinking of the simple first, have you tried hitting the maximise square on the top right of your screen?

Well done, BB. The 'KISS' solution still works!
Re: The Digital Surgery (computer questions/problems here)
I have an issue I would appreciate some help with. I have a new Lenovo laptop that I am very happy with, bought just before Christmas, but now I have an issue with the volume. I got back home about 4.30 today, switched on the laptop and eventually noticed a message about some new windows updates that needed installing and I chose to do it there and then. Before I noticed this message, the volume was fine.
When the process was over, the laptop came back on but the sound didnt. I did all the obvious things, checked the tab volume was on, checked the speakers etc but I could only hear a very faint volume level, I continued to check the settings, but nothing worked although it looked as if everything was in order. So being a bit fed up, I switched the laptop off and unplugged it, came back about 15 minutes later and to my susrprise the volume was higher, not by much, but I could at least hear something, but it's clearly not working as it should. Certainly not the 100% it is set at.
So after doing some more checking and troubleshooting, I can only find there may or may not be a sound control in windows turned off and I wonder if after looking at the attached pics of the troubleshooter, some kind soul out there can help me, because I don't know what that is?
Many thanks.

Re: The Digital Surgery (computer questions/problems here)
Just an update, the volume in and out works fine on si=ocial media - line and whatsapp - so must be a windows setting issue? I might need to go and see Mr. Don.

Before you go to Mr Don, you could restore to a previous date. If it was the Windows update, that should take you back to where you were.

Also try downloading an installing the specific Lenovo driver for the audio device instead of using the default Windows one.

That's interesting, it's telling me this option is no longer available. Not just in respect of thiis issue, but generally.
