Documentaries
Re: Documentaries
Watched it last night, quite a powerful doco. I wouldn't say it had an overall anti-Thai sentiment, but it did show that the Thai army clearly wanted to control everything and they clearly didn't have a clue what to do (especially on the scuba side of things). Additionally, the bit about the foreigners potentially getting jailed if things went wrong really did put Thailand in a bad light. These guys flew over here and endangered their own lives and all the generals wanted to do was point fingers and prepare to exonerate themselves from any responsibility.
Fortunately, the mission was a success.

Re: Documentaries
I don't think I said it was particularly anti-Thai, just that it did show the Thais in a bad light.
Re: Documentaries
I've watched Rescue at last. I don't think there is anything untoward. I doubt any government in the world would have given absolute freedom to a bunch of (albeit, very skilled) amateurs in such a high profile situation. Yes, there were potential comebacks on the divers had anything gone wrong, but the anti-government sentiment could have been just as bad if they didn't get all of the boxes ticked as well.
Comments about the chaos in the beginning were understandable, but we have to remember it was a one of a kind incident, where they were making it up as they went along. Yes, a few non-PC comments, but nothing I would not have expected. A good documentary, which served to fill in a few gaps in my understanding.
A good replication of my memory of the incident.

I think my comments were influenced by my Thai family who watched it. Several times they remarked "Why so stupid" referring to the actions of the Thai authorities.

Joe Montana: Cool Under Pressure
Not a big follower of AF these days but back in the day I loved watching Montana and Marino.

I watched the first episode last night - absolutely amazing in all respects (nature and the technology to record it). At 95 you wonder how long he can continue - I hope for a very long time as he’s going to be very difficult to replace!!buksida wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 9:14 am Sir Attenborough is back with a new series - The Green Planet. https://www.bbcearth.com/shows/the-green-planet

Digging for Britain
BBC iPlayer
I loved Time Team, and nothing has ever quite rivalled it, but this isn't a bad effort. An archeology show presented by Prof Alice Roberts, the thinking man's totty. Well, my version anyway for some years now... To put it crudely, I would, oh I definitely would!
She's in the Mendips in ep 5 and has just mentioned that she's often to be found walking there at the weekend.
Can't stop, I have to google Mendips B&Bs...

Oh I'm guessing this would be a very one sided (dream) affair DM - save the cost of the B&B.... As to the show, can't say I've seen it, but have enjoyed "The Great British Dig: History in Your Garden"dtaai-maai wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 8:26 pm Digging for Britain

You're quite right sir - no need for a B&B and come to mention it, the fanciable Prof is a tad closer to my age!!dtaai-maai wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 9:37 pm You know me, Pietro, the eternal optimist. And now that I think of it, you're not all that far from the Mendips, are you...?

Re: Documentaries
I’ve just watched episode two which is all about the plant worlds and equally amazing - making me realise how little I (and I suspect a lot of us) know about this amazing world in which we live - recommend!!Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 10:06 amI watched the first episode last night - absolutely amazing in all respects (nature and the technology to record it). Re: Documentaries
Netflix is showing a series called Midnight Asia which takes a look at the major cities in the region after dark - food, drink, nightlife, sights, and scenes. Really makes me want to travel again, but that avenue of pleasure has been closed off by the Thai government at the moment.
