I'm pretty sure one company controls the majority of the food supply and hence the prices in Thailand, so the people don't really have much of a choice.

They can choose to eat or not eat and buy or not buy certain products. No one will die without pork or chicken.

Its not just pork and chicken, the price of everything is going up and its hardly the fault of the people. There is a program on Thai TV as I type this about the price of vegetables and chilies going up FFS!

"Don't eat it" isn't really the greatest advice.

I also read yesterday (can't find the story now) that there is a growing pork mountain because people are not buying pork at the inflated prices.

The story was talking about a Bangkok butcher who used to sell 7 pigs per day, and is now reduced to selling just one each day.

I was speaking of the economy, not just pigs and chickens.

Yes, everything is going up and vegetables are still cheaper than meat.

I'd be willing to bet if everyone stopped buying new cars for 1 year the prices would drop.

I never do anything FFS. But then, I don't have temper tantrums either.

Agreed but new cars is a bad example. For those prices to drop would require a major shift in car tax. Controlled by the government that is never going to change.

With most other things though, a drop in consumer demand 'should' result in lower prices.

I would be willing to bet if everyone stopped eating for a year ... they would die. :banghead:

We broke our Macro record over the weekend ... half a trolly ... 8,185 baht.

Wow - did that include any booze? We rarely spend much over 2,000 Baht for about 5 days supplies for 3, although we do get a few items in the markets but only a few hundred Baht’s worth

There was a bottle of Absolut in there.

It was all Keto-friendly food also which explains the cost - eating healthy here certainly isn't cheap. Very very difficult shopping for stuff without sugar in it.

That lot should last us a week or two but overall I reckon our general monthly groceries bill has gone up about 30% over the past year.

I don't understand why you would equate eating with automobiles. You could classify them under religion.

Does the burden of always being right ever lay heavily upon you?

Does yourd head hurt from banging it against the wall?

You are the one who bought automobiles into the increasing cost of food thread ... and now religion?

Yes, it hurts when trying to reason with some people or comprehend WTF they are talking about. :banghead:

Another news report on Thai TV today about the prices of papaya going up. How is this even possible? It grows everywhere!

The price of Kratom leaves has also doubled in less than a month so it seems everyone is just trying to rip everyone else off on this latest price hike bandwagon.
