immigration office

I am back in HH again to renew my visa after a 3 month tour of Issan and jst got back from a trip to the new immigration office and want to warn anyone who hasn't been there how far it is from town. Soi 102 is about 4km to the south and the office is another 3km up what is a quite rough bit of road.

Not a problem if you have a 4wd truck but for someone like me who walks most places it is a bit of a mission. Even if you get a taxi to get there you have to get them to wait or have a number to call to get them to come back. I also understand from another post that soi floods easily so why they put the place out there is beyond me.

I left pretty quickly as I could see from the number of bored looking falang sitting around I wasn't going to get anything done on a friday afternoon, however good comfortable chairs for a long wait.

I will mount another expedition on monday.

Definitely a retrograde step as you would expect offices like that to be fairly central to town.

On another thread there is mention of a new road being built out to the immigration office. Now it is very cynical of me to think like this, but I can see a certain scenario whereby it might of suited somebody to put the office out there to give a good reason to build a new road to it!

It could also be that they don't want HH to become a magnet for visiting farangs who need something. Being that far out will probably result in a lot of "Naaah, I'll wait until I get back to Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket....." Pete

The Immigration Office is the only house on a big piece of land very far from everything. Noone would ever go there without being forced.

So to me it is all clear: The developer (don't know who he is) has given a house to the authorities in order to force foreigners to see his development. And the authorities get their problem solved while the old Ampur office next to the police station is being renovated.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. If I am right I think it is quite a smart move by the developer. He just forgot that he needs to impress people with the way his development looks if he wants to gain anything from it.

Went inside to day and had my annual appointment with the immigration department.
I found their new office as cold and ugly as never before.
Bangkok, Singkhon, down town HH was much better places than soi 102.
No problems at all with my visa, but the new facilities is quite depressing?
Cramped and crowded with only 2 rooms.
One small ofiice for the 90 days stamp, one BIG for the rest.
The working environment act is not given a single thought.
This is NOT a modern and successful solution for a task many of us are forced to do every 90 days/year.

Remember where the police station moved temporarily when the new place was being built; halfway down to Cha-Am?
In some countries (not in Thailand, mind) one would suspect some underhand dealings with the landlord/chief of the LBFM’s.
The kickback is much weightier an issue than the comfort of the public.

Thus it has been, is, and shall be.

I was up there this afternoon and told that they'll be moving on May 25th. I wasn't told where to.
Whether everything keeps to that timetable, who knows.
Fortunately the road was quite dry. I can image what it would be like after heavy rain.
