Thailand plans to drop mask mandate by mid-June
Thailand’s Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Kiattiphum Wongrajit, said on 24 May that the country plans to drop its mask mandate by mid-June.

Masks were introduced in both indoor and outdoor settings on 29 April 2020 in Thailand. In 2021, the government made it mandatory and imposed a hefty fine on those who violated the rule in order to prevent people from taking risks.

Speaking at a conference in Surat Thani, Wongrajit said that the improving COVID-19 situation in Thailand led the Ministry Public Health to re-look at the mask mandate.

But masks will still remain mandatory in crowded areas and poorly ventilated places. People infected with COVID-19 and in high-risk groups will also be required to wear masks.

Correct me if I'm wrong but there wasn't any significant rise in the figures following Songkran where, I would guess, there was far more "mingling".

There was a rise of a few thousand but then started dropping. As for mingling, from what I saw, Songkran was pretty much cancelled whereas the long weekend was heaving comparatively.

However, restrictions are vanishing, although slower than most countries. Covid is pretty much endemic now so hopefully we can put it behind us.

June 1 I'm retiring from the Covid reporting business, that is unless the whole thing comes roaring back at some point in the future.

Ongoing you can get the data you want to see from https://ddc.moph.go.th/covid19-dashboard/ and change the date in the field at the upper right of the page to see data for prior dates.

I'll still post the daily Bangkok Post headline and link.

...and to you Joelle for all your work, charts and postings, and of course BB as well, hhinner, and all those who contributed.

Let's hope it now all becomes a (bad) memory.

But wait.....as we seem to be living in a Jumanji game we now need to be concerned about the monkeys. :duck:

Very downbeat article in the Guardian today about all the diseases just waiting their turn at us as climate changes and wild habitat shrinks.

I'd sort of like to get to the end of COVID-19 (let's say when masks are discarded) first and give it at least to the end of the year before worrying about anything new.

I put this little bit of info here rather than "vaccines" to make a point that the above numbers are not going to change much until the below numbers improve. Cases will go up and down endlessly until the below numbers meet, or close to it, or the disease simply burns itself out.

1st vaccination: 56.5 million out of 69.6

2nd vaccination: 52.3 million out of 69.6

I doubt they'll ever get close. If people wanted the vaccine, they'd have it by now.

Meanwhile, the lion's share of Covid fatalities go to the unvaccinated. It is now a matter of assessing the risk, and making a choice.
