Cannabis worries outlined
Cannabis use should be limited to medical purposes only, the chief of the Department of Medical Services said on Monday.

Director-general Somsak Akksilp warned against the recreational use of cannabis, especially among young people.

For children, cannabis should only be given to treat epilepsy when regular medicines are ineffective, he said.

For other medical purposes, cannabis should be used for palliative treatment and for cancer patients who suffer from nausea and vomiting after chemotherapy and do not respond to medication, Dr Somsak said.

He warned against the use of cannabis by people under 25 years, and for recreational purposes.

Mr Numptin is already firing out warnings - I can see it getting banned/restricted again as soon as he secures power.

Four admitted to Bangkok hospitals after using cannabis, one dies

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... s-one-dies

After the decriminalisation of cannabis on June 9, four men were admitted to hospitals in Bangkok for treatment after cannabis overdose, one of whom later died of heart failure.

Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt said on Tuesday that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's (BMA) Medical Services Department reported that the four were sent to BMA-run hospitals with suspected overdose symptoms.

One of them was a 51-year-old man who suffered chest pain. He later died of heart failure at Charoen Krung Pracharak Hospital.

A 17-year-old and a 25-year-old had palpitations after consuming cannabis and had been admitted to Taksin Hospital.

A 16-year-old was being treated in an intensive care unit at Luang Phor Taweesak Chutinataro Uthit Hospital following a cannabis overdose.

Mr Chadchart said the BMA would monitor the situation and educate students and teachers about cannabis. The administration would also launch a project to declare schools a cannabis-free zone, said the governor during a meeting with BMA executives.

Meanwhile, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said cannabis overdose that caused death was not new. Everything, if overused, would do harm to health, Mr Anutin added.

On Monday, Dr Somsak Akksilp, director-general of the Department of Medical Services of the Public Health Ministry, warned against the recreational use of cannabis, especially among young people.

The law considers low THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) to be 0.2% by weight or lower. A higher percentage for cannabis and hemp extracts is still illegal.

THC is the main psychoactive compound in marijuana, which is what makes people feel high.

There will be lots of this happening now and for a while with people being stoned doing all sorts of silly stuff and the chaos that will ensue.
It's ironic, that a group of military generals have overseen such a mess-up of a policy on drug decriminalization. Totally ill-thought out to appease Bumutin's party.
A clear lesson in how not to do it after pretty much not considering anything at all really. Sure, loosen the laws on it etc. as that's clearly the way it's headed in many non-totalitarian places, but at least give it a bit of thought and maybe inform the police of what to do etc. and slowly ease in the new reality, rather than just opening the box and throw the contents into the air to see what happens. Comedy really.
Can't resist a little schadenfreude towards this "administration" creeping in watching this car crash unfold.

These salacious news headlines are going to be pushed out by the health ministry regularly now as a warning to people and more finger-pointing, just as they do with the "other evil," alcohol. Though chances of dying from cannabis overdose are extremely slim (falling coconuts kill more people).

Speaking of car crashes, it's a shame they don't do the same regarding road deaths which nobody in the ivory tower seems to care about.

People wont die from cannabis. But the effects will prompt some to try other drugs to see what the 'highs' are like in Comparison and now cannibis is legal, those numbers will probably increase. That's where the ruined lives and death will come from. I lost five friends following that pattern, the first aged 19 and the last finally succumbed in his 40's.

The problem for me is the smell. I hate it. I hope that doesn't become another dispute between neighbours.

I'd rather smell a bit of neighbourly herb now and then than have to listen to their screeching roosters, blaring karaoke, howling dogs, or pimped-up Honda Waves revving their tits off ... but each to their own. :rasta:

You could try feeding it to the roosters, that might quieten them down a bit!!

Thus far, there has been only 1 recorded death, ever, in the US, from an overdose of Marijuana. it has been estimated that it would take approximately 9 oz. of Marijuana to cause death. Mental health issues are a different subject.

As expected the story was bs and fearmongering ...

Bangkok governor walks back claim that man died from ‘marijuana overdose’
The Bangkok governor on Wednesday walked back the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA)’s claim that a 51-year-old man died from smoking marijuana.

“The autopsy is still unclear,” Chadchart Sittipunt told reporters. “The initial report was only meant to inform that using marijuana has risks,” he said.

The governor said during the BMA meeting on Tuesday that he has concerns over the use of marijuana after it was decriminalized last week.

He said BMA’s health agencies have informed him that at least four people have overdosed on marijuana since June 9.

The operators of a pop up store selling cannabis and other cannabis related products have reported brisk business following demand for Thailand’s newly decriminalized herb.

Mr. Thien Seng Methanopakhun, manager of 789 Thongthai Herb, a community enterprise based in Pranburi, which has opened a pop up store in Market Village Hua Hin says their products have proved a hit with customers, especially with foreigners.

Mr. Thien says his store has up to ten different cannabis strains on sale, such as “OG Kush”, “Mobi Dick” and “Crescendo”. The store also sells cannabis honey, balm, brownies, and seeds for customers who wish to grow cannabis themselves.

Customers need to be aged 20 and above and if people want to grow it at home, they should register with the Plook Ganja app, Mr Thien said.

Govt to restrict cannabis use to adults after complaints

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... complaints

The government will issue rules to limit marijuana and hemp access to people at least 20 years of age, after the decriminalisation of cannabis since June 9 sparked many complaints.

Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said he will sign the regulations on Thursday to designate marijuana and hemp as controlled plants. Those under the age of 20 won’t be to own and use them unless they have permission from doctors, he said.

The moves followed local reports that four males, including students aged 16 and 17 years, were admitted to hospitals in Bangkok this week for treatment of what was defined as cannabis overdoses. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has said it also plans to ban cannabis in schools.

The government will also issue rules to limit or prohibit cannabis consumption in public and control cannabis in food. These rules will be tools for officials to control and prevent any misuse, Mr Anutin said.

Under the regulations proposed by the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine, cannabis use is banned in public places, such as educational institutions, department stores and state agencies, and use of marijuana during pregnancy and after birth is also prohibited.

“We have not mentioned the use of its bud, particularly its use in food," the public health minister said. "So far, we have the law on the THC content."

The law considers low THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) to be 0.2% by weight or lower. A higher percentage for cannabis and hemp extracts is still illegal. THC is the main psychoactive compound in marijuana, which is what makes people feel high.

Mr Anutin said the regulations also consider the fumes from smoking pot a disturbance.

The Department of Health has issued guidelines on the use of cannabis in cooking on how to use cannabis in cooking.

People should not take more than two meals with cannabis each day. Overconsumption of cannabis can lead to brain damage, and cannabis use among children can affect the developing brain, according to the guidelines.
