Coconut Oil

Post by wenshidi »

What is the difference between coconut cooking oil and regular coconut oil.

It seems that coconut cooking oil is only about a quarter the price of regular coconut oil.

From your friendly Google....

Unrefined Coconut Oil is the least processed form of Coconut Oil available and it contains no additional additives—it's Coconut Oil at its most natural state. Meanwhile, most cooking grade Coconut Oils down your grocery store aisles are refined and use dried and old coconuts (known as copra).

Price-wise can be a factor as pure coconut oil is also used for cosmetic purposes : eg shampoos and Indian ladies here use it for lustre in their hair.

Cooking oil is refined a lot more, and higher smoke point. Coconut oil, still heated, but more in its natural state, with more scent. Gentler on skin, and better for some with dietary concerns.

Then there is cold pressed, and gets even more expensive. Supposedly more nutrients, since not heated.

My daughter and I made coconut oil for a science project. You can see how we did it here:
