Post by H2ODunc »

Just to let ou HHers know the beast as finally arrived. She wil be making her debut appearence at Johnnies place Friday evening. Anybody wanting to see a piece of world beating british engineering pop down for a look. Shes certainly a beauty. I've been riding bikes since I was 8 and have had many different types but this is in a differet league altogether. Looking forward to heading to HH tomorrow.
Hope the roast is as good as it was JW? Lamb would be good!! :thumb:

Mine was a 100cc yamaha twin cylinder. Very rare bike now, been trying to find one for years but no luck. Got the feelers out here though as lots of old Jap machines about. Also had a raliegh chopper as well to get to school though.Evidently mahing a bit of a come-back in the UK :thumb:

The best bike in the world (at the time) was the Brough Superior.

The beast in question is the Triumph Rocket 3. 2300cc, 3 cylinder & more torque than you can shake a stick at and for me sex on wheels! As soon as I saw her it was love at first sight & I knew I just had to have her.
Oh the old Brough superior as you said the equivelent bike of its day. Nearly bought one but bought a 1976 Kawasaki Z900b instead.See you all Fri!

As ridden by Lawrence of Arabia who had owned seven of them and died from injuries sustained while crashing one. For those who are interested Wikipedia have a potted history here: It is TT Senior Race Day (a bank holiday) here tomorrow and hopefully I will get to see at least one Brough Superior again in a parade lap (not actually in the race) along with a lot of other rather tasty machines while consuming multitudinous pints and beefburgers

Sorry h20dunc

It's an ugly machine and over rated

Best bikes I ever had were a Taylor Dow BSA goldstar DBD in racing trim and a Norvin (plumbers nightmare in a featherbed frame)

When bikes were bikes

I've taken the beast around a lot of Thailand and have yet to have anybody tell me its ugly. Everybody and that is EVERBODY has said its beautiful, awesome, the bollocks. not even an its all right but. As for being over rated For some one who thinks the BSA Goldstar is the best bike you dont rate as somebody who can give an opinion on modern bikes. There are modern tractors that are better equiped to handle a road trip than one of those old bone shakers. Show me 1 write up on the Rocket that says its overated??????????????????????????????? I know you cant. I've owned every type of bike there is and I can tell you that the Rocket 3 is the best all round bike I've ever had. Stick to your old memories and leave the modern world to those that can still enjoy it :thumb:

Oldies

Post by H2ODunc »

Dont get me wrong Richard. No one loves the old ones as much as me. Up till last year I had a BSA D1, D3, 2 x D7s and a C500. I've also owned old bonnevilles and a lovely old Norton Commando. Went to buy a Vincent black shadow but he couldn't get it to start when I got there so didn't buy it, but a lovely looking bike. My favorite looking bike was , up till now was the 1976 Kawasaki 900 Z1. What I class as the first of the Japanese superbikes. I had one for a number of years. I've had every type of bike from R1s, ZZR's, CBR's v max's, RG1150gs, XTC Teneres, Viragos, Shadows, Fazers,CB 400's, R600's and oldies, trials- RL 250, Scramblers- Maico 500 to name but a few. I still say the Rocket is the best bike I've owned. A real head turner, Went to Hat Yai bike weekend and it was the only one there, at ease nipping into town to pick up some shopping or munching up the miles 2 up fully loaded sat at 140kph doing just over 3000rpm. I can do 5-6 hours and get off without an ache. I hope when I get to retire I can still look back as fondly on it as I do now. Or they may even bring out a 2,500cc model next year NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For me, Especialy being British, The Triumph is alreay a classic and will continue to be years to come. British Engineering excellence creating a world beating bike. I hope its a reverse of the trend led by the Japenese all those years back. Next time you are in BKK and have a couple of hours to spare go and ride it. Just make sure you can buy it though as you are sure to want to :D
