Public face of running a business in Thailand

Post by Jockey »

I was just thinking - do you think us Ferang's leave the public image to the Thais and run business's from the shadows, like evil Bond villains.
Mwa ha ha.
But the Thais think "we can let them think they own things but we just steal their money smile smile"
But Ferang's know that they think that they're letting us think we own things so they can take our money so we'll let them think that while we make them the public face, we take all the money?

Probably, with the government making it clear that they are going to target and investigate farang businesses first who would want to stand up and shout about it. Even if you are totally legit I'm sure they'll find something additional to demand or nail you on ... after all we're all millionaires right?

Or they will just deny to renew your work permit and visa. So you can be the share holder/investor for the company but have no rights to perform or manage.

In summary "Give us your money and shut up!"

Stay tuned for an article from the Pattaya Mail newspaper published today. Their on-line edition for this week won't be posted until tonight sometime.

In it is that "B" visa renewal requirements have completely changed as of June 7. Most confusing thing I've ever seen, althought I don't have a "B" visa, it looks terribly complicated to me. Will post when available. Pete

Here we go again. This really getting silly, another jump-the-new-hoop-test for tax paying businesses.

Time to look closer in to Malaysia, me thinks.

I made a mistake with the above. The new regulations are dated 4 May 07 and not 7 June 07.

I'll post anyway in the NEWS section when available in case some have not read them yet. Pete

To me the law of the land with concern to foreign bankrolled / operated business in Thailand sees the farang pushed into the observer role with the 'hands on' bit being from the Thais. Its one of the reasons I won't operate a business here, I prefer to be in the thick of the action and getting my hands dirty. Dr No types fare better as they can, as you say, operate from the shadows and start pulling strings. But you need the big money to work from and remember that getting a good work force together is murder out here.
Some farangs who are of this ilk run the show with: Heineken and Lomrayah Ferrys (very powerful farang, they run the islet of Koh Nag Yuan as well!)
Here's the best solution:
Dr No (or at least the brains and money of Dr No!)
A lawyer that works for free or is 'in the pocket!'
Half-farang / half thai overseer / chargehand / manager. Unrelated to workstaff but possibly related by blood to farang founder / investor.
Trustworthy Thais.

Now you can start planning world domination! ;)

Why can't you all see that the Thais simply don't want us here?
When you understand that, the visa situation makes sense. We're scum who bring money into this fragile economy and we are lucky that we have the chance to do so.
