Photo Trip Report: England and Scotland
Re: Photo Trip Report: England and Scotland
The thing that has surprised me with both sets of photos so far is the amount of cloud. Everybody had been talking about extreme (for UK) temperatures, and I had imagined wall to wall blue skies.

This is near Manchester ... which does not get the same blue skies as the southeast of England! In general, the weather was fantastic for 90% of the time (even in Scotland) and far better than the deluge that we've returned to.

Not criticising, just saying I had envisaged skies carpeted in blue. You've spoilt my illusion

I think my favourite photo so far has to be 4074, with a distant Mrs B trudging wearily up the path toward the camera. I can't see her face ckearly, but I can almost hear her thoughts!
(Of course, if it turns out not to be Mrs B, I'll feel a bit daft... )

Thais are not used to walking anywhere so it took a while to acclimatize her to that activity. Not being 35 degrees with 95% humidity certainly helped!

Re: Photo Trip Report: England and Scotland
Lovely photos thank you, a lot of memories for me. I grew up in Sheffield and often enjoyed a weekend run out on my old Triumph twin along the Hope valley through; Hathersage, Hope and Castleton then up Winnats Pass to the Cafe near Speedwell Cavern (that's the one with the boats). Good walking country as well in the Derbyshire Peak District. The footpaths look in good order, I guess they have to manage the erosion, but they weren't like that back in my days, I remember some muddy walks on Mam Tor and Loose Hills.
I'm in the reverse situation to most of the other contributors. I've been stuck in London for the past two years, not prepared to jump through the bureaucratic hoops. Looking forward to getting back to Hua Hin in a few weeks' time and expecting to see a few changes.

The next trip we did was a walk along Bamford Edge and a revisit to Stanage Edge. Unlike Thailand, the UK's National Parks are free to enter, you can usually find a parking spot near the beginning of one of the many trails and hike off into the stunning scenery ... all without spending a penny!

Very nice!!
The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.
Re: Photo Trip Report: England and Scotland
I used to stay in Bamford, when I first went to work in Sheffield, well being based in Sheffield would be more accurate. Loved getting to know the Peak District. Loved driving the snake pass over Manchester Way.

In the UK for another few weeks. Just to show a bit of blue sky, walking around Southport this morning.
Re: Photo Trip Report: England and Scotland
Yep, the weather in the UK has probably been better than in Thailand for the past 4 months. We haven't seen the sun since we returned here and it has rained more in the past week than we had in 2 months there.
Here are some shots of Stanage Edge. The weather started to turn against us with an incoming squall forcing a swift retreat off the top of the Edge since we didn't have any wet weather gear!

Lovely looking cloud formations, albeit not friendly to those not suitably attired.
Re: Photo Trip Report: England and Scotland
Some lovely angry sky shots. The rest looks pretty good as well .
It must be an age thing, but just looking at 1661186279058-01, I feel a bit light headed. I wouldn't have thought twice about getting up there to enjoy the view before.
Apart from DSC_4231, was there a quick way out of there? It looks massive.

There were paths on and off the Edge, but not many ... needless to say, we got wet coming down.
