Thai Election Promises

Post by Big Boy »

I always enjoy hearing the Thai election promises designed to con people out of their vote, but with no real foundation. I thought it might be fun to record them here as they are made, and maybe look back in a couple of years to see what actually happened.

I'll start it off with 3 that I've heard in recent days.......

- A tank of LPG not to cost more than 250฿ (maybe they'll start making smaller fuel tanks).

- Thai pension to rise from 600฿ per month to 3,000฿ per month.

- An end to army conscription (if this happened, where would Ladyboys seek their 5 minutes of fame?).

I'm sure enjoying reading all the election claims too. What a fraud all these politicians are. The one I really thought was the best proposal was the party who proposed to cut the military budget in half and put that savings back into the people's hands. Wish it could happen.

LOL, with promises like that, they'll be lucky to get as far as the election.

One of the younger parties, Future Forward I think, promised to revamp the archaic liquor laws that protect the military and elite-owned monopolies to allow smaller players into the market. Good luck with that.

Thaksin back to his old tricks ... want votes, buy them.

Pheu Thai pledges B10,000 crypto handout for New Year
The Pheu Thai Party vows to give 10,000 baht to all Thais aged 16 years and over via digital wallets on Jan 1, 2024 if it forms the next government.

Key party figures made the announcement on Friday at a briefing to elaborate on the handout policy that was announced earlier this week.

The policy has drawn criticism, especially over the source of the money, as some economists say it would cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of baht.

Businessman Srettha Thavisin, one of the three Pheu Thai prime ministerial candidates, said that if the party wins the May 14 election and forms the government, the handout could be ready by Jan 1, 2024.

He estimated that it would cost the state about 500 billion baht.

Mr Srettha said the policy was aimed at stimulating the national economy. The technology, he said, would be developed to ensure that recipients spend the sum on approved purchases in their local areas based on the addresses on their ID cards.

There would not be any eligibility criteria based on financial status of recipients and it would be a one-time handout, he said.

I like that! :thumb:

Even the Generals are offering money and they will just ignore their promise, because after they are elected, they can!

All the parties do it. They will take the money from all of them and then vote for who they want

Good vibrations: Thailand’s Democrat Party makes sex toy election pledge
A conservative Thai political party is seeking to woo voters ahead of next month’s general election with a pledge to legalise sex toys, pointing to the fiscal – and frisky – benefits.

Despite its reputation for being one of Southeast Asia’s most sexually liberated countries, Buddhist-majority Thailand remains conservative and vibrators, dildos and other intimate devices are illegal.

The royalist Democrat Party has been a major player in Thai politics since the 1940s but it flopped in the 2019 election and is sagging in the polls for the May 14 vote.

“Sex toys are useful because they could lead to a decrease in prostitution as well as divorce due to a mismatch of sexual libido, and sex-related crimes,” party representative Ratchada Thanadirek said in a statement Monday.
