Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
In one of your previous threads you said that EV cars are no more expensive than ICE cars, although they may be less maintenance intensive and have a longer life, the Fact is that the purchase price of EV’s are currently quite a bit more expensive in many markets around the world - in the example above its 50%.
Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
They're more expensive and they're still selling in large numbers but the prices are going down and the range up whilst ICE cars are standing still.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 5:16 pm In one of your previous threads you said that EV cars are no more expensive than ICE cars, although they may be less maintenance intensive and have a longer life, the Fact is that the purchase price of EV’s are currently quite a bit more expensive in many markets around the world - in the example above its 50%.
Until now that is. New emissions standards coming in around the world are going to make ICE cars more expensive and restrict their performance so they'll be going backwards.
China is implementing stricter standards for vehicle emissions from July 1st.

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
Which is why I said that CURRENTLY prices are 50% more expensive - I accept that the gap will narrow over the coming years and at some stage EV’s should be cheaper.STEVE G wrote:They're more expensive and they're still selling in large numbers but the prices are going down and the range up whilst ICE cars are standing still.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 5:16 pm In one of your previous threads you said that EV cars are no more expensive than ICE cars, although they may be less maintenance intensive and have a longer life, the Fact is that the purchase price of EV’s are currently quite a bit more expensive in many markets around the world - in the example above its 50%.

Yes, personally I think this whole argument is rapidly going to get steamrollered by economics.
Renewable energy is getting to be the lowest cost option and more plentiful and EVs are getting cheaper and more practical to the point where there'll soon be no sane reason for using anything else.

Agree, as the reason not to, are disappearing quick, especially if you have deep pockets. Larger battery pack / longer range available now, but not in my vehicle budget.STEVE G wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 5:51 pm Yes, personally I think this whole argument is rapidly going to get steamrollered by economics.

EVs not for you if;
... you can't charge at home, unless in TH, and CS is convenient. Still way cheaper than petrol.
... you're putting 500 kms a day, working in your vehicle, and time is of the essence
... you have to be there, that holiday spot, ASAP, and 1000 kms, with 1 or 2 short pit stops is all you want to do
Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
I really don't think the prices are that much more expensive, if at all, even without the govt incentive. I'm only familiar with MG/BEVs.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 5:34 pmWhich is why I said that CURRENTLY prices are 50% more expensive - I accept that the gap will narrow over the coming years and at some stage EV’s should be cheaper.STEVE G wrote:They're more expensive and they're still selling in large numbers but the prices are going down and the range up whilst ICE cars are standing still.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 5:16 pm In one of your previous threads you said that EV cars are no more expensive than ICE cars, although they may be less maintenance intensive and have a longer life, the Fact is that the purchase price of EV’s are currently quite a bit more expensive in many markets around the world - in the example above its 50%.

Actually some are cheaper, if comparing Japanese imports. Obviously more than Japanese branded entry level 'made in TH' cars, but you do get what you're paying for.
Toyota Camry, starts at ฿1.475M
Toyota Cross starts at ฿999K
Honda Accord starts at ฿1.499M
Honda CR-V starts at ฿1.419M
MG EP PLUS @ ฿998K without incentive
MG ZS @ ฿1.189M without incentive
MG ES @ ฿1.019 without incentive
MG4 @ ฿1.019 without incentive
I would take any of the MGs over the Japanese models above.

I don't think you have to look too far into the future - in fact that stage might already be here, in some cases.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 5:34 pm Which is why I said that CURRENTLY prices are 50% more expensive - I accept that the gap will narrow over the coming years and at some stage EV’s should be cheaper.

I would refer you to my earlier post about the BYD Seagull. While it's a relatively small car (around the size of a Fiat Panda) so not suitable for everyone, it is currently expected to sell in the UK for under £9,000.

The Fiat Panda that it's approximately equivalent to, starts at just under £14,000 in the UK.
Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
For charging cars, i am still surprised that new condos don't have this kind of facilities. I asked in my condo and they don't have plan to build it. They even told me it would be forbidden for safety reasons, but the manager couldn't give me any details. I would have buy an EV car if i can charge it but seems impossible ! I think it is a huge loss of market if people living in condos cannot have EV cars

I was referring to the car advert that I originally included, which showed the Peugeot 2008 EV was approximately 50% more expensive than the equivalent petrol engined model.GroveHillWanderer wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 11:04 amI don't think you have to look too far into the future - in fact that stage might already be here, in some cases.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 5:34 pm Which is why I said that CURRENTLY prices are 50% more expensive - I accept that the gap will narrow over the coming years and at some stage EV’s should be cheaper.

Other manufacturers either don’t offer the same type car in both EV and ICE, or their costs might be closer, but Peugeot clearly still apply a considerable premium on their EV models!
Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
The airline I work for has recently replaced a whole fleet of vehicles with electric Peugeot passenger vans.
I'm presuming the accountants decided there is a long term saving otherwise it wouldn't have happened.
Where I am in Europe nearly all new light delivery vehicles on the road are now electric but it's not always that noticeable as most of them are electric versions of existing models.

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
I'm not going to get into the whose right and who is wrong argument, as I don't know enough about it. But I am amused that the bastion of real reporting, The Guardian, has used a fellow reporter (albeit one with a PHD in biochemistry), as a so-called independent 'fact checker, to rebut some of Atkinsons claims, and some without providing any evidence in doing so. But that's okay, I am cynical about most so called fact-checking sites and any related to the media. The Beeb even produces their own - the beeb!hhinner wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 11:23 pmA reply to Rowan Atkinson's article. Also in The Guardian.caller wrote:Interesting article by Rowan Atkinson:

They might have been late to the party, but Toyota have announced plans to introduce Solid State Battery EV’s by 2027 with significantly increased range over today’s Lithium Ion cars - sounds very promising!!

Another battery development, this time in the reduced time it takes to charge the battery as well as offering significant weight reductions - the future is looking ever more promising!!
