All or nothing?
To those that are considering the big move to the "Land of Smiles" are you going the whole hog or is it just an extended holiday?
Its a serious question as moving is never taken lightly, theres just too much to do. However when you move you usually don't look back as a move on is a move forward.

all or nothing
went for the 'always the option to go back' for the simple reason that if i do move out to the los more permanantly i know one day i will have to go back for one reason or another.
close family ties & elderly parents being the main reasons.
i think for the first few years i would 50/50 between the two.
there is of course another option not mentioned, which is new zealand /australia.would fancy exploring that one for sure.

Remember, no one can make you feel inferior without your consent.
I've now been in Saudi Arabia for nearly 5 years and never been back to the UK. I take 3 or 4 holidays a year, at least 2 per year in Thailand. I have also visited Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, South Africa, Sri Lanka and India.
As soon as I think I have enough money to live on I will move to Thailand although I am currently exploring the option of buying some sort of business so if I have a small income I can come immediately although the visa situation might be a problem to me.

The visa situation's easy. Marry a Thai girl, be over 50 or work legitimately and pay your taxes.Pagey wrote:I've now been in Saudi Arabia for nearly 5 years and never been back to the UK. Whichever route you choose to go down, Thailand will want your money, preferrably in one of their very generous banks.
Nothing wrong with a country wanting to see that you're bringing money in and living legitimately, but to expect anyone to tie their funds up in the frugal banking system here is going too far - IMHO.
That was a bit of a rant. It's not as bad as that.

I fall under two of those categories and the visa situation still aint easy!lomuamart wrote: The visa situation's easy. Marry a Thai girl, be over 50 or work legitimately and pay your taxes.

Visa
It will be July 2010 before I can get a retirement visa and getting married is a bit drastic just to get my visa!! I may yet be buying a legit business and will pay taxes etc so that is one option.
I am just unsure how I get my first one, do I have to travel to the UK ?
Also tried opening a bank account in Phuket in April and was told not without a year visa in my passport but I will try again in Hua Hin in July.
