and a traditional kebab shop, would make a fortune, even if its those small fake ones that they shift thousands of outside Nana Plaza - Binta Burger have got the drunkards all sewn up - or someone get some fish&chip fryers over and open one of them too. Fortunes to be made.thecolonel wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 3:50 pmI heard about this too, didn't know it was called Kwality thoBig Boy wrote:I've been reading reports that Kwality has re-opened in Soi 94 near Space Condo. They used to do a decent meal when they were just behind 94 before. Will hopefully give them a try tomorrow or Sunday.
Surprised someone hasnt opened an Indian in main Soi 94(between Phetkasem and Initial hotel) especially near Wonderland.
Maybe the demand for it is not as big as I perceive it to be

Doner Connection make great kebabs for home delivery and are on Grab, but I didn't see them on Foodpanda.
I don't think they have a shop though, I'm just sharing related info for kebab lovers.

It is hard to imagine that people yearn for something so horribly unhealthy.
The Fattest Town In Britain: “We Send Kebabs To The Same Address Three Times A Day”
The reason that they are so popular is because they are so cheap, and I think that we all know why that is......
This seems to be why the Chinese hot places are always full as well.

Being Thailand do Kabab shops usually specialize in Gyros as well? To me there is nothing much better than a good Gyros wrap with selected toppings etc.
I know, it may be Arab/Turk kabob culture vs. Greek gyros culture but I used to really love the latter, but difficult to find here. I'm also not sure what the meat is that I see on a Gyros spit here?

Re: Kebab Shops in Hua Hin
The days of old fashioned god knows what's in it donar kebabs, were pretty much a thing of the past in my neck of the woods, in the UK. My local place in West Berks, too far away to deliver, made fantastic kebabs, all on their premises, my favourite was a lamb kofte. They even made their own pita breads and sauces. And what's so unhealthy about some meat, served with salad and pita bread?wenshidi wrote: ↑Sat Sep 02, 2023 5:21 pm It is hard to imagine that people yearn for something so horribly unhealthy.

In London, eon's ago, the kebab kid chain, weaned people off donar and onto real shawarma's - they were great.
Not so sure about the cheap bit either.

Re: Kebab Shops in Hua Hin
It may be one of those misnomers, but I’m sure some of the kebab houses used to put a big piece of donar meat (commonly referred to as a donkeys leg) on the skewer and leave it there until it was gone maybe 2 or 3 days later - hence why we always felt rough the next morning (I’m sure it had nothing to do with the 5-6 pints we’d drunk beforehand)!! Whereas the koftas were a different thing all together, much, much nicer
Re: Kebab Shops in Hua Hin
We seem to be talking 'Doner Kebabs' and 'Shish Kebabs'. I wouldn't have thought they're comparable. I'd agree with BB's son in that the best kebab (shish) is in Bahn Khun Por. I've not found better and of course the price is very reasonable.

I think so - I'm talking sliced kebab meat from the spit. Food you woudn't be remotely interested in sober but you would happily exchange an arm for after a dozen beers! There's a PHD in there somewhere as to why that is.

There is a little confusion in following this thread, understandably.
Kebabs (kabobs): doner, shish or kofta; gyro; then there are shawarma and trendy 'wraps'. Kebabs sliced from a rotating shawarma machine/gyro machine/doner kebab machine (same thing), or grilled on skewers? Served in pita bread, or as part of a multi-dish Arabic or Turkish style meal, or just on rice?
Makes my head spin! All very tasty though depending on your needs at the time.
PS - as lamb is so expensive here, I also wonder what the compressed meat being grilled on the rotating machines is....

Re: Kebab Shops in Hua Hin
They do a really good shawarma/chicken wrap in BlúPort (IMHO) just near the inside lift entrance on the ground floor. They have the chicken on a rotating vertical spit just like a shawarma stand and I would simply call them shawarma except that they don't use Arabic bread, they use a Mexican-style soft tortilla wrap. But the way the meat is made up of fresh chicken pieces, the way it's cooked and sliced, the vegetables and the sauces they offer are very much shawarma-like.
The portion sizes are good - one wrap usually does me for two meals unless I'm really starving.
