BMW confirmed to InsideEVs that the company has now ended production of its V8 engine at the Munich plant, news first reported by Electrive and BMW Blog. This brings an end to any internal combustion motor production at the company's headquarters, and arguably its global beating heart. Granted, the plant still makes some cars that get ICE motors, but making actual gas engines there is a thing of the past."

Although V8 engines are not exactly environmentally friendly, I’ve been watching the drama series Slow Horses recently and the Spooks in the show have been driving Range Rover SVR’s that have the BMW V8 - the sound is quite intoxicating!!

^I'm sure in the future there'll be heritage parks where you can see and hear V8 cars, the same as you can with other forms of obsolete transport like steam trains and horse drawn carts.

The reality is that ICE cars will be around long after I’ve gone, you just won’t be able to buy new ones!!

There's no question of that. I'm a proper "Petrol Head" and have been for many years - and have been lucky enough to have owned and driven (more-so the latter) some great cars. That said, I'm also realistic - I'll no doubt go for an EV in the future when it becomes a realistic option for me (UK based), but for now I'll stick with a car I love and environmentalists (and blinkered "EV- lovers") hate. Must admit though, with taxes, insurance and Low Emission Zones, I'll be looking at a Hybrid in the near future.

I think that is going to be the future of ICE cars in most countries, they're basically going to be taxed off the roads.

You’re probably right there Steve, once the ban of cars is implemented in 2035 or whenever, although it may still be legal to drive an ICE vehicle , you can see taxes being increased to make them less and less viable.

ICE cars are not banned from 2035 - there's a ban on newly manufactured engines/cars. Neither does this ban apply to all vehicles - think heavy duty vehicles used in industry, mine sites et al. Of course it will remain legal to drive an ICE car on the road - as far as the UK laws are concerned, cars over a certain age are "Classic" and avoid tax and emissions legislation regardless.

As I mentioned above, my current car will be hammered hence my reasoning on Hybrids - the UK at least is simply not suited for "full EV's" at the moment unless you do limited mileage and have decent access to charging. This situation will last for a good many years quite frankly and more and more people are beginning to realise it.

I obviously didn’t mean that ICE cars will be banned completely because I further said that they can still legally be driven, you just won’t be able to buy a new ICE car after 2035 or what year the ban eventually gets implemented.

Well, I thought as much DB - I'm just being Welsh

I'm already being taxed on every front and all ICE cars will be.

This is a lengthy document to read but it suggests a significant breakthrough in EV battery technology

Which will make no difference at all to the facts:
EVs are severely range-limited, heavy, unreliable, expensive, prone to thermal runaway fires, and suffer catastrophic depreciation.
You’re welcome.

You either didn’t read the article and/or you’re just a windup merchant - probably the latter!!

Yes I am a wind-up merchant. But what I say is based on facts, brother a chemist who’s had a career in the oil industry, friend an electrical engineer, and a third who’s an automotive engineer working for Toyota UK. They all regard EVs as a dead end, for reasons based on scientific principles.

Well I think you’re all going to be proved wrong, it’s just a question of how soon? I suspect it will be 5-7 years, so from about 2030 I’m confident that the picture will be completely different than it is now.
