Of course I know that. However such a simple entry (brought forward) I would imagine any bank could do that if they wanted to.
If they wanted to - obviously you chose the more informed bank!! But it’s no big deal taking out a B1,000 (or in BB’s case 100)Image to keep imm happy.

The fact that the book needs to be updated "on the day" means you need to be at a bank or ATM anyway, so as you say, its no issue at all ... just more famous Thai inconsistency if some are not required to do it.

When I was doing my visa renewal there was a (non-Brit) farang doing his. My wife got speaking to his wife/partner and she told us that they had rejected his first application (no idea why), but a “brown envelope” sorted the issue!! So apart from a lot of inconsistency, some things remain totally consistent.
I've been sent away two times out of the six I've extended an O/A visa. Each time I was clearly told what was wrong (they changed the requirements, as happens far too often) and I came back with the correct documentation. Brown envelopes? No.

Same for my husband with Krungsri Bank
Banks are not going to tell you what 'this month's' visa extension requirements are as pertaining to banking, nor should they be expected to. They will give you what you ask for.

Even that is inconsistent. I too am with Kasikorn, and they insist I make a withdrawal. I presume we are with different branches - mine is Market Village.

As a matter of course I make a withdrawal outside the bank before I enter so they don’t have to mention anything - and yes we use the Cha Am branch.

I just did my yearly extension of permit to stay (by reason of marriage) and although I've never found it particularly burdensome, this year it was actually a little easier than usual, due to slightly reduced documentation requirements.

Firstly, no copy of TM6 required since they don't issue them any more and then, as I found out last year, you don't need copies of witness documentation or their presence, if its not your first marriage extension and you have kids.

I still think the copy lady out back provides the best value for money ever. You just give her all your original documents and she makes sure everything is there, then makes 2 copies of all the required pages and sorts them into two packages for you - no fuss, no muss. It really takes all the difficulty out of it.

The worst part is still you and your wife needing to sign all the relevant copied pages but I'm so used to that now that it doesn't really bother me any more. The office wasn't that crowded either so we didn't have to wait too long for our turn and the IO checking the documents seemed to take less time than I can ever remember, to do so.

All in all, my easiest marriage extension since I started doing them.

Retirement Visa Upgrade

Post by berlinmichael »

I currently have a standard retirement visa which does not allow travel outside of Thailand. I'm planning a trip to the UK next month and aware that I need to change my visa to allow exit and re entry. My question is do I need to book my flights before going to Immigration therefore having the dates of travel or can I book flights after upgrading the visa? Thanks in advance.....

There is no requirement to have flights booked, you just need a re-entry stamp which can be done at BluPort or the main immigration office.

You’ve mentioned about upgrading your visa but presumably if you have a visa based on retirement, it will be either an “O” or an “O-A”, in which case as Buks has mentioned, you just need to get a re-entry permit which will cost you B1,000.

This.

If you have anything that can be described as a "standard retirement visa" there's no need to change or upgrade your visa. As the two previous posters have stated, just go to immigration and ask for a re-entry permit. And to reconfirm, you don't need to book flights to get a re-entry permit.

Thanks for the responses - I was told at Bluport that the necessary change to my retirement visa O would need to be made at the main out of town immigration office

When you do, at the same time, ask for a reentry permit, which will be stamped in your passport.
No need to have a flight ticket.
