.................According to the Meteorological Department, 15 provinces, including Bangkok, will be affected by a red-level, or a highly dangerous heat index until April 27. As the high heat index directly affects health conditions, Dr Achara warned people about the risk of heatstroke flare-ups.
Heatstroke, said Dr Achara, leads to the body's core temperature jumping drastically to 40C or more. Symptoms include skin redness, a faster pulse, headache, dizziness, vomiting, unconsciousness, or even fatality in some cases, she added.
Heatstroke can be treated by applying ice or cooling cloth over the body, especially the back of the neck, armpits, and the crotch, to lessen the body temperature before sending the patient to the hospital, said Dr Achara.

I must say, the heat is getting to me more this year than I can remember in previous years. I'm not sure if its old age, it actually is hotter, or I'm believing the media hype. Whatever, its bloody hot.

It's age. I've been getting worse with it each year the past several. Today I've been out all of once to get a package. The dog doesn't even want to go out!

I think somebody has taken the batteries out of our dogs. They will need to be re-booted some time in August

It is hotter for longer this particular year due to El Niño, but I've seen it even hotter here in previous years. Age and tolerance definitely are factors; its a lot easier to deal with in your twenties!

42C in Ratchaburi yesterday. It was quite windy, but the wind just forced the heat onto us.

It's hotter (imho, based on the thermometer at the front of the house, in the shade). But the kite flying season (wind) seems longer this year and, together with the heat, dries your sweat faster making you feel warmer. The weather app on my phone has regularly been showing temperatures like 36C with "feels like" 46C. Then there's the air quality.Big Boy wrote:42C in Ratchaburi yesterday. Re: Doctors warn of hot summer heatstrokes
Christ, I used to be able to take the heat - hell I lived through it for many years and also worked in it on site, not in aircon. These days, mid-high 20's is my perfect spot. Whether this being in the UK as a home base for too long, stints in cooler climates or now simply not working (or travelling) for a few years, who knows. One thing's for sure though - 40 deg.+ would just about kill me!!
Even when "used" to heat, the temperatures you're talking can truly be dangerous - saw many fall foul when working on several sites and refusing to take salt tablets or drink the necessary water... The "Tough Guy Mentality" unfortunately. Crikey - I even got a taste for salt in my beer after work!
Certainly no joke....

Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
What’s the best way of dealing with the current extreme heat.
1. Open all doors and windows and let the air circulate?
2. Keep all doors and windows closed and turn on air con to full?
Going for a dip in the very hot swimming pool doesn't help much.

Depends on how much you can afford!!
Apart from the cost, I’m not sure that I’d like to be in an air-conditioned environment all day long and spend virtually all of the daytime hours outside under shade. It’s still fairly hot but bearable

Yes, swimming pools are useless unless you're lucky enough to have it in full shade.
Cold showers are useless as the water is pre-heated by the hot PVC pipes in the ground. My full cold at the moment must be around 32c.
Full Aircon day and night may bankrupt you, as I can attest.
The best may be to go to a shopping mall and hang out there in their free aircon, or see a movie. Also, get in the car and drive somewhere with the aircon on of course.
It is a difficult problem for everyone.

Na, play golf, overheat a bit, get a cold shower at the course and arrive back home after a couple of beers at roughly this time.
Re: Doctors warn of hot summer heatstrokes
A sad part of all this is that I don't think this country has any laws to protect labourers from the elements while working outside. I see these men near where I live working on clearing land for a new housing development, and I see no breaks given, no shade, no nothing. IMO the trigger should be about 38c for a shade and water break every hour, and 40c + work ceases. Perhaps rules are on the books but I've never read about them.

I'm lucky enough to have solar power in my house so I don't worry about having 3 or 4 air conditioners running all day. It's just too hot this year.

Good idea in terms of sun protection, not so good concerning traffic.
