Wedding RIngs
Hello all, new here, myself and my girlfriend are getting married at the sofitel in october . we are thinkingabout getting the wedding rings in hua hin or bangkok, nothing to fancy but good quality, is this feasible and any suggestions of places to buy?

Just my opinion. Regardless if your girl is Thai or not, a Thai 99% gold wedding band is very nice. It's soft gold and will eventually mold itself to the shape of your finger.
The norm is 1 baht weight for the man and .50 baht for the woman. Market rate today for Thai gold is about 10,650 Baht per baht weight. Add to this about 300 baht per ring shop service charge. So in total today, you would be spending about USD 520.00 +- for both. Any gold shop in the country should be able to get/make these for you an 2-3 days. Congratulations! Pete

We bought ours' here 2 years ago. Normal size and a "half Baht" each.
The "half Baht" simply refers to the weight of the gold when compared to Thai coinage.
The rings cost us about 5,000 Baht a piece, but my wife has just informed me that with rising prices, it would be more like 12,000 Baht for the two now.
The only thing I'd say is that Thai gold is soft. It's pretty pure, but I think that a combination of gold and alloys may be better? Probably someone else, a metallurgist, can explain it better than me. However, I've only ever had to get my ring reshaped once in the two years so far and it only costs a few Baht to have the repair done.
There are millions of gold shops all over HH. I'm pretty sure that the price is pegged by the government, so you won't necessarily get a "better deal" by shopping around. A lot of Thais still use their gold as collateral, should they fall on hard times.
Hope that helps.

I presume that Thai gold is similar to Chinese 999 gold? I've never owned Thai gold, mainly because I've always associated the two. 999 gold is virtually pure as well & has the same rich colour. It's also very soft, & that, IMHO, is the problem. Before I got married, my husband-to-be bought himself a heavy 999 gold "wedding band". Within months, it looked years old, scratched & warped - not attractive. And this gold has virtually no resale value in the West - hopefully not something you'd have to worry about, but something you might want to consider for insurance purposes.
Sorry, just my two penn'orth - based on Chinese gold, not Thai.
