What we write on this thread will have no affect whatsoever on what happens to EV sales - you’re either for or against (or sitting on the wall until price, range and infrastructure issues have been resolved). I mean KuhnLA can come out with as many facts and figures as he likes, but he’s never going to convert 2/cb!!

I’m more in favour than against, but still have some concerns hence why I’ve only partially converted with a PHEV. If/when the current concerns are overcome I’ll be happy to buy a BEV car.

A friend stopped by today with a new Tesla Y. AWD, dual motor, long range. I think it cost about 2.5 million. No time for photos but you can see those on Tesla's Thailand website.

What surprised me was that it is not totally silent. When engaged and moving there is a hum coming from it, which to me is a godsend for any pedestrians. It actually sounds like a very small engine is in there. Perhaps it's something they've done purposely for safety?

I've been sensitive to that after almost getting run over by a Toyota Prius hybrid in a Pattaya parking lot about 20 years ago.

Most if not all EV’s (and PHEV’s) have something that creates a sound below 30 kph or something to do as you’ve suggested to warn pedestrians.

I did say before that I wasn't anti-EV ... and didn't want arguments, but there are too many evangelists in this thread, so I'm outta here and back to observation mode ...

To be honest, I would be far happier if this thread was just about the EV cars available in Thailand and which one to buy but it's full of endless posts from people who clearly have no interest in them.

That would be nice, and maybe a new thread needs to be started .. "EV in Thailand", as there is on another forum.

Also a "ICEV vs EV" thread, which resembles this thread, and opposing views not going anywhere to convincing, converting either. A bit harsher over there, as pure EV & CH haters.

I see most of the negatives, are about EV location other than Thailand, and understandable. As I've stated, I don't find those here at all. Possible Qs at CSs on weekends, though I've yet to experience, but surely they happen.

As with all purchases, comes down to budget, and purpose and or ego. There's a few very nice EVs in the <฿1M.

Even ฿550k, a bit lower spec'd, and probably not as comfy on the highway, but would imagine no worse than all the entry level ICEV made here in TH, with a badge of a manufacturer from JP. Which I wouldn't consider owning any of.

Then there is the better spec'd, longer range EV, start around ฿1.6M - 2M, for those than want 600 km range, or 0-100 kms in 3 ish seconds. But still <฿2M, comparatively priced & superior of any import from JP.

Your ฿2M & up EV, is more name, status, hopefully specs & performance coming with it.

At the moment, the Atto 3 is looking the favourite for me but I'll probably be buying early next year and there are many new models in the pipeline so I'm looking at anything that comes along.
Actually, I've no interest in long distance driving and something like the Netta V or the BYD Dolphin would suffice for what I need but I do like the look of the Atto 3 and would probably spend the extra for that.

Atto 3 became available after we put our order in for our MG ZS. Stuck with what we knew, and like what we researched about the EV version of ZS, since already having the ICE version.

Atto 3 would be our next choice if we didn't get the ZS. Really like it, and my daughter just picked one up this week. I need a SUV, as back isn't as flexible for getting in/out of a saloon.

I've noticed that a lot of EV models have the touch screen sticking up in the center of the dash board. I would find that very distracting when driving. Can they be lowered down into a less intrusive position?

Any that don't fully retract I'm surprised Vehicle Safety Authorities haven't stepped in with some kind of regulation.

To be honest, you tend to quickly get used to whatever the vehicle has and it’s not particularly distracting - most of the time it’s simply a case of concentrating on the road ahead rather than the screen.
