Bangkok Post (POST)'s shares will be delisted on July 26.
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) will allow trading in POST securities for 7 business days, from July 16 to 25. Investors must execute transactions through a Cash Balance account. SET will then delist POST securities effective from July 26 onwards.
The shares are being delisted due to the company's shareholders' equity falling below zero, and it has not remedied the grounds for delisting or regained eligibility for trading resumption (Resume Stage).

Re: Bangkok Post to be delisted from the SET
I still subscribe to the Post and read it every day. Sadly, they lost their way nearly a decade ago when they stopped publishing the local stuff that made the paper interesting. Things like Bernard Trink’s Night Owl, Normita Thongtham’s “Green Fingers”, Suthon Sukphisit’s “Cornucopia” dining column, the "RoadMap" Thai travel column, film reviews by Kong Rithdee, the “Database” column with the fine writing of Wanda Sloan and Don Sambandaraksa, the Apple columnist Graham K. Rogers, and the humor of Andrew Biggs are all gone.
In place of what was wonderful local writing we now have wire service stories that fill up the general news and sports sections, “Life”, which tries hard but which mainly seems to feature restaurants in which I will never dine, food that I will never prepare, automobiles that I could never afford and venues that I will never visit.
At least we still have the often hilarious Post Bag and a few talented OpEd columnists.

It started with the departure of the last Farang editor!Ratsima wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 9:19 am I still subscribe to the Post and read it every day. Trink passed away. and so did Suthon. Andrew spoke out of turn, and Wanda Sloan was an idiot!
The only one remaining is Roger Crutchley, and he only writes his own column, which is about the only thing worth reading.

I'll add that CHARTCHAI PARASUK gives some good insight into the economy here.

Yes, he would be the one I would miss. So many of his predictions from months in advance actually happen. Only yesterday, I was reading about Thailands now happening liquidity problem.PeteC wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 11:49 am I'll add that CHARTCHAI PARASUK gives some good insight into the economy here.

And he is now questioning whether his previous warning of a 'silent' financial crisis is actually happening. The Government is in the process of pumping lot's of extra money into the banks right now, purportedly to offer cheap loans to borrowers, that will be the same ones that can't repay their other debts then?

Re: Bangkok Post to be delisted from the SET
So is there any Thai newspaper left worth reading?
Re: Bangkok Post to be delisted from the SET
Thai Enquirer, Khaosod English, and Prachatai (English) are all good and all superior to the BKP in my opinion. It is very difficult to get a real non-pandering news outlet in Thailand due to its rafts of restrictive media laws/censorship/slander/defamation/taboo subjects etc etc.

Re: Bangkok Post to be delisted from the SET
I think the Thai Enquirer has basically given up. Apart from it's useful daily news update in PDF style format (included in Pete's daily update), it only really comes up with a couple of articles a week. Before, it was pretty cutting stuff, constantly challenging the status quo and was a go to read for me, but I just dip in once a week now.

Re: Bangkok Post to be delisted from the SET
Sadly, that's how most of them have gone. With all the media restrictions and struggles to generate revenue streams, running an independent news outlet in Thailand isn't really viable - unless it's a state mouthpiece which, IMO, the BKP has become.

Yes, I agree wih that, one of the main owners of the BP is the family that own the Central Group, so not short of cash and it was announced a little while ago that Wissanu has some sort of advisory role (again) now.
