Hi Guy's
Are ATM's plentiful in Hua Hin and are they reliable, had a mate that said they were not but I took that with a pinch of salt, never had a problem in Thailand before so why should there be a problem in Hun Hin.
If they are OK to use which bank gives the best exchange rate and are there any daily limits on how much you can withdraw - also are card widely accepted in restaurants and hotels ?
many thanks
Pat
ATM's In Hua Hin
Re: ATM's In Hua Hin
Plenty of ATMs in Market Village and BluPort. I use SCB's often when I am there, though I have a Thai bank account.
Re: ATM's In Hua Hin
Just treat Hua Hin the same as Bkk, Patts, Phuket or anywhere else you have been in Thailand. Banks / ATM's are plentiful and use of cards are just the same here as anywhere. I guess you would have to look up rates daily to find the best exchange rate, but generally it's not banks.SouthportPat wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 3:49 pm Hi Guy's

It’s a long time since I’ve used a foreign card to withdraw Thai Baht from an ATM, but back in the days when I did the difference in exchange rates was normally so small that unless your looking to withdraw a large amount it’s probably not worth the hassle of going on a walk about of Hua Hin.

Re: ATM's In Hua Hin
As far as I'm concerned, the ATM's in Hua Hin are as reliable as anywhere else and there are plenty of them.
For one thing, pretty much every 7/11 has at least one ATM, sometimes 2. I only know one that doesn't (the second one on the left as you're going up Soi 102) and I hear it's closing soon anyway.

They charge 220 baht for using a foreign card. They possibly charge for using a Thai card from another bank too??
Never ever use an ATM that isn't inside or part of a bank building
If you do be aware of severe risk of fraud(skimming card machines near by)

That's a rule I have never followed! I do keep a beady eye on my surrounds though, and always cover the keypad.

I will never put a card in a machine again unless it's inside a bank.caller wrote:thecolonel wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 5:22 pmNever ever use an ATM that isn't inside or part of a bank building

I got done TWICE by an SCB machine(now gone - says it all!) opposite the Hilton. I was told afterwards it was the tuk tuk drivers opposite who cloned my card.
The only way I'll use an ATM now is using my phone app not my card(actually don't have an ATM Card with my Bangkok Bank).
But even then it's very unlikely as I get cash from teller inside bank and I use it rarely as I pay with scan app 95% of time. Hardly spend cash these days.

From time to time there have been issues with ATM's in the central area. I recall some problems with ATM's around the city beach hotel area. But that was years ago. I would certainly be extra vigilant in that area, but never encountered any issues there personally.thecolonel wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 5:53 pm
