Not sure about Sunday, but the 17th is definitely a closure/no alcohol day.

So is this the situation where bars closed from 00.01h Sunday morning and bar owners lose a large slice of Saturday night revenue?
Re: Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin
17th is Thursday. Your question confuses me - are you saying the 13th is happening as well?
I thought it was agreed bars close at midnight anyway.

The 17th is nothing. Perhaps a typo. If anything it's the 14th, Rama IX passing anniversary. But...according to the below alcohol is allowed on both the 13th and the 14th.

My family tell me the 17th is end of Buddhist Lent.

That's not listed on the Thai Holiday schedule at all, and it's not listed on any "no alcohol list" that I can find. It is listed on Google as a festival, https://www.thailandfoundation.or.th/cu ... hist-lent/

It is listed on the calendars that the banks give out every year, and for as long as I can remember has always been a dry day. I know because most years my son goes dry for Buddhist Lent (not religious, just an easy period to detox every year), although he did fail to last the full period this year for only the 2nd time. End of Lent is always marked with a dry day.

Bars are forced to close at midnight anyway so it makes no difference.404cameljockey wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2024 8:05 am So is this the situation where bars closed from 00.01h Sunday morning and bar owners lose a large slice of Saturday night revenue?
The 17th is the end of Buddhist Lent, a closed bar and no-alcohol day, at least in HH. The 13th is the anniversary of the passing of Rama IX, not sure if there are similar restrictions on that day though.

Some of the above makes me chuckle, and shake my head at the same time. This is not the USA where each State has a constitution and it's own local laws. What I see here though seems to be provincial and municipal leaders making up and enforcing their own local laws on a whim or a power trip, probably the latter.
In the case of this thread, if a day is not deemed a no alcohol day by the central government, that's exactly what it is everywhere within the borders of the country!
It scares me to start to dig into other "exceptions" to the law instituted by these apparent local despots.

I was told it's now 12:30 and the original senior police will soon be returning, as things have quietened down!

Anyone desperate on the 17th can now get a drink at the 5 major airports.
"The National Committee on Alcohol Beverage Policy decided on Thursday (a day back in July this year) to allow all airports under Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) to sell alcoholic drinks on Asarnha Bucha, Visakha Bucha, Makha Bucha, Buddhist Lent and the end of Buddhist Lent days."
