Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
I'll third that....been with Nord sometime now , very good.
Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
Nearly 5 months of uninterrupted use with Nord now. I have recently encountered my first real glitch. Whenever I switch my VPN on, my Outlook disconnects from the Internet. It is a niggle, more than a problem, and I'm still well-delighted with Nord. I don't know if its a problem with Nord, or a Big Boyism - whatever, I can easily live with it.

Can’t say I’ve encountered that issue!!Big Boy wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 9:14 am Nearly 5 months of uninterrupted use with Nord now. I have recently encountered my first real glitch. Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
The only issue I’ve experienced is that it sometimes doesn’t always open with your last VPN location - obviously I nearly always select a UK location but sometimes it opens up on Vietnam, which the BBC don’t like!!
Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
↑ That's my main complaint about it. It keeps reconnecting to Malaysia, which makes Google spew out Malaysian news and provide Malaysian ads and content. It would be nice if you could set a default location to connect to as you could with Express.

Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
I haven't had that problem, but I only switch on when I need it, and switch off again afterwards, so it doesn't connect to an mystery locations.

Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
It's more of an issue on the mobile app; the laptop seems to pick my preferred location, which is Singapore. I still cant get it to stream BBC iPlayer properly as its mostly in SD which is largely unwatchable on anything bigger than a phone screen.

Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
It’s strange how we all seem to experience different “minor” issues - my phone and tablet stays connected to the UK location, whereas it’s my windows laptop that sometimes selects a random (normally Vietnam) location. Most programmes on BBC including nature programmes are usually very watchable.

Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
I get that with mine it selects Israel in my part of the world, which I really do not want. I seem to remember there is something in the settings that you can toggle to ensure on start it goes to your selected location as default.
Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
Although I can't prove it, I think it could be the reason for my lappie sometime thinking I'm elsewhere (even though not switched on) when trying to use Google Maps, or order from Food Panda.

Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
I bought an annual Vpn subscription with PIA (Private Internet Access) a while ago and are utterly positive. Not one single problem so far

Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
I think that's very good intelligence as we have little to nothing on here about any VPN except Express and Nord. Good if we can build up opinions on the dozen or so others that are available.
I've read that Mozilla now offers a VPN that works on all browsers, not just Firefox, but in the initial stages in some countries it's for IOS and Android phones only.

Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
Nord offer a dedicated IP option which effectively makes you appear to physically appear in the country of choice and prevents the browsers from knowing you’re using a VPN 1 day left: Get a special Black Friday deal for dedicated IP
A dedicated IP lets you:
Access websites that block VPN connections.
Skip annoying “select images with cars” boxes.
Enjoy smoother online banking.
Access secured work resources remotely.
Take advantage of our Black Friday deal: Get 20% off on a 1-year plan, which comes down to $4.69/month ($56.28 in total).

This very interesting interactive map shows all the relationships between different VPN proividers and their ultimate owners, click on a node and at a glance see their status, logging policy, audit history and if/how many government requests they have complied with.

I personally use Mullvad and sometimes AIR Vpn, both can be paid anonymously with crypto if desired and have multiple routing options etc - not much good for streaming services etc though which I do not use personally. Mullvad have 2 servers in BKK which are reliable. Mullvad apps are good on both MACos and ios/android, AIR Vpn desktop app is not for the faint hearted and their mobile apps do not exists just use open VPN app with confog files - good for the advanced user though.
