When renting a house in a development that has (for example) a communal swimming pool, are there any costs involved and, if so, is it normally included in the advertised rent or paid separately. If paid separately, what would the average rate be?
The reason I ask is because it's never mentioned in any adverts that I've seen and I don't like suprises!
Many thanks for your replies.
Communal costs for rental on development?
Communal costs for rental on development?
It's all good
Re: Communal costs
Yes, there are maintenance costs, but they will vary from development to development and may include different things, for example some will include the upkeep of private gardens, so will obviously cost more. So I think its hard to calculate an average cost. I think you need to ask if such costs are inclusive or exclusive of the rent. It will be one or the other!

Main thing is set a budget for the total monthly outlay that you’re happy with and then ask what the costs are - some may be “all inclusive” others ++ As long as you’re happy with the total there shouldn’t be a problem.

Re: Communal costs for rental on development?
When renting in a development, the rental agreement should say the rent is all inclusive of all common maintenance and service charges and those private maintenance and services specified in the rental agreement. I hope this helps.

It’s usually paid by the owner but ask and check your contract

You're looking at a landlord who is likely to also cause you financial trouble on leaving.
I'd be very disappointed if a landlord asked me to pay anything towards communal fees. Sounds like extreme chiseling - I'll bet their basic rent plus electricity isn't lower than other comparable lets? Even if so, this is like the addons of budget airlines! Oh, and if they asked you to pay for water use I'd laugh, they are even more unserious.
