Well this is it then
Well this is it then
Well I have finally retired from the UK Immigration Service, sorry the Border and Immigration Agency, after over 39 years working for the Home Office and will be moving to Hua Hin on 8th August after a couple of days in Bangkok to sort out some paperwork.
Hopefully over the next few weeks I can start putting faces to names, like most people I will probably find it difficult to adapt to retirement after being in a high pressure job for the last few years.
Since we brought our home in Hua Hin, sorry yes it is one of those developments at the top of Soi 102, I have gleaned a great deal of advice from the forum and I will continue to do so over the coming months and years - God willing.
I think my first question is regarding the cost of calls to the UK. At present I pay 0.5p per minute to call Hua Hin and I am wondering if there was a similar operation to call the UK, though probably not as cheap as 0.5p.
As I say I look forward to meeting you all soon.

Good luck with your move. It's a big one.
I use my wife's mobile to call the UK and as long as you put the right telephone code in - I think it's 008 44 ....., rather than 00 44 ......, the calls work out at about 6/7Baht per minute. So a 100 baht call can be as long as 15 mins.
I've a feeling that's a promotion on her network and she's not here at the moment to ask, but there are sure to be other networks doing the same.

Hi Governor is your 0.5p a minute via a calling card?Governor wrote: I think my first question is regarding the cost of calls to the UK. At present I pay 0.5p per minute to call Hua Hin and I am wondering if there was a similar operation to call the UK, though probably not as cheap as 0.5p.

Via TOT land line we pay 7 Baht per minute call pre fix = 008 - 44 etc
My mobile GMS network prefix 009 - 44 etc think it is 7 or 8 Baht pm
The 0.5p calls are to a landline and you do not need a calling card, you dial 0844 200 8585 and then you are talked through the system wich is very easy, you just continue with 0066 and then the number and hash and hey presto.
To call a mobile it's 1p a minute and the access number is 0844 861 2121.
I found this through the money expert website and is a good source of money saving tips. I have attached a link and hope it can remain as it is an independant search engine.

Skype
Does anyone in Hua Hin use Skype for calls to UK which would be free over the Net?
Is that possible in Hua Hin?

I use SKYPE a lot and talk and chat to people all over the globe
Gets a bit overloaded at times but that's understandable bearing in mind there are always upward of 5 million on line

skype
skype is pretty new, so hasn't quite got the same status as msn or yahoo messenger, these are less overloaded than skype yet 100+ times more users online.
