I'm spending about 75K/month anyway, so makes little difference to me. All of my income is pensions, taxed at source, so the T word should not come into it.lomuamart wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 8:56 am However, since that change to income method, the 65K has to be remitted to Thailand. Previously, you only had to show an overseas income of the above. There was no requirement to transfer a satang of that - might have been difficult to live but that was the letter of the law.
And I won't mention potential tax in Thailand this year - oops, just did.

I'm sure that several embassies were happy not having to provide this data anymore and for me at least, the outcome was better. But it still demonstrated the lack of awareness by Thai authorities about how other countries operate with respect to personal data, and the fact they introduced the amended process without checking first whether it was feasible for such data to be provided in either a timely or cost effective method, or even whether embassies were prepared to compy with the new requirements in the first place.
Talk is cheap
Re: 'How To' - Requirements for visa extensions etc
That attitude is also my main concern regarding the idea of requiring expats to file/pay Thai tax. That is, the Thai Department of Revenue will not take into consideration tax treaties when they promulgate their requirements, and will just say that annually we must submit to them a pile of documentation showing how our income is not subject to Thai tax…….caller wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 11:25 am I'm sure that several embassies were happy not having to provide this data anymore and for me at least, the outcome was better. When I worked for a Thai university, besides having to renew my extension every year I also had to renew my work permit. For five years, even though nothing had changed – same employer, I had the same address….. – my university had to prepare and submit a very thick pile of papers to renew my work permit……
Maybe I will be surprised, and the process will be a piece of cake…..

Many European embassies (depends on country) do this and also the Canadien as far as I know. But the countries then need a secure database so they can verify the Id and pension to the applicant but if it's not a pension income they can verify, they will of course not issue an income statement.huahin4ever wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 8:43 am Still embassies doing income letters such as the Norwegian one. The cost is not more than 1000 baht.

Not quite correct. Such as the Norwegian Embassy issue statements based on income documented either as pay slips or your last tax statement. It does not have to be a pension.Hahuahin wrote:Many European embassies (depends on country) do this and also the Canadien as far as I know. Marriage visa extension: does anyone know if I can get the bank letter from a different branch (same province) to where the account is? And can this be done a week before renewal?

I don't know about Marriage extension, but I've had a Retirement extension letter from a different branch during Covid (my branch was closed). They didn't blink an eye.

Good to know, that'll save a bit of messing about, was told it needs to be done 2-3 days before renewal, no longer.
Funny how its much easier to forge a letter than manufacture a fake bank book, but Thailand loves its paperwork.

Has there been any changes to the time you need the 800k in a Thai bank account to obtain the 1 year visa extension. I was told that Hua Hin immigration are saying the money has to be in the account for 1 year and not 3 months.
Re: 'How To' - Requirements for visa extensions etc
My friend wanted to switch from the income scheme to a deposit and was told that the money had to be there for 12 months (in his case it was only 11 months). I don't know if this is also valid for an extension.
Re: 'How To' - Requirements for visa extensions etc
Has anyone renewed their retirement visa since the 1st Jan
I have heard hh immigration are saying you have to have 800k in the bank for 1 year ( not 3 month) before applying. Other people say they were fined even though the account had never gone below 800k they had used the account for every day use for 3 months before and after the application date ?

There has not been any change in official policy that has been published, as far as I'm aware. However, as is often mentioned, it seems as though individual Immigration Office(r)s can come up with their own versions of the rules.

I went to the Cha Am Immigration office this morning and other than being a little busy, my annual extension was completed exactly as in previous years.

Re: 'How To' - Requirements for visa extensions
Are you sure they weren't just talking about the fact that you need to maintain 800k for three months after the extension and then 400k for the next seven months, then back to 800k for the two months preceding your next extension? Maybe something got lost in translation?
Re: 'How To' - Requirements for visa extensions etc
A friend went to Hua hin to check on requirements needed and the bit of paper they gave they had handwritten 12 months next to the 800 baht ?
