Having only been to Thailand on holidays we don't look too close at what we spend and leave good tips. We are trying to get into the routine of being more conservative to be ready for when we live there but I feel mean sometimes only leaving 20/30 baht.

What would be considered fair for a tip to a taxi/ tuktuk driver, a bar waitress after a round/ all night in a bar and after a meal? also should you tip after a massage/ manicure?

Don't want to push prices up but also do want to help the local staff.

Personally I rely on 'gut feel' and of course where you are

Usually I only tip 20 or 30. sounds frugal but I live here and think in Thai terms. For them 20 Bhat is a meal!!!!

If you have good service and feel the waitress, driver, massage person has delivered well make sure you tip them personally. Many restuarants put the tip in a communal box and they never get to see it

Just my opinion.

Dont worry about that in Hua Hin, you would have just been charged about 3 times the national average.

Hi All

Been here 4 days now (not a total newbie, been here twice a year for the last 4 years), been to Bam Bams and all the places on that strip regular. :Last night went to Kims Kitchen for the first time, had chicken curry with potatoes and peanuts (some smart arse will tell us the Thai name), and spotted Lek Lek just up the road so went there tonight and had baby clams in oyster sauce and mixed veg. Couldn't fault either place on taste or price.

Lots of changes since I was here in October, I will try to document more when I am back at work early August.

Cheers Baa Baa, although I have heard of Massaman, I thought it was referred to as brown curry.

The Victoria Bar (between George's Bar and Mr. Torros just before the main traffic lights on the left if you're coming from HH flyover) is starting to do a Sunday roast from tomorrow - 3 courses for THB 250.
If the quality's anything like the breakfasts and burgers there, it must be worth a try.
