sorry bit late to join this topic, but if anyone is still watching.
got 2 suits both with extra trousers at the tailors about 7 doors down from the main petchkasem crossroads on the left hand side coming from north to south. (sorry cant remember the name). paid 20,000 baht for the lot, and although I knew it wasnt a good deal it was only when I got back to the apartment and thought about it, I think I paid way over the odds. (I get confused real quick when guys start shoving material and calculators in my face). Anyway that was about 6 months ago, and the suits are ok, apart from the threads that needed cutting as they went through the pockets. Anyway they fit me, and they havnt gone balley (thats ball-e) yet. The big mistake I made was letting them put my name on the inside. I thought it would be a nice discreet name in light thread, buts its tacky f**k off gold thread large letters with the wording Exclusively made for Mr Bamber Gasgoigne lights up my shirt from the inside of the jacket. I have finally mastered the knack of taking off my jacket in offices without letting the inside ever be seen.
Speaking of bargains (which I wasnt really, but anyway) About 10 years ago in Vietnam, I got 4 suits, with extra trousers, 4 ties, 4 shirts, and a winter overcoat, all for 100 Dollars. Now that was a deal. I was so happy with myself I crashed the motorbike on the way home, and had to pay the rentee about 500 Dollars and the police about 100 Dollars. So maybe it wasnt such a good deal after all !.
And finally although it may seem obvious, remind the tailor which way you want the stripes to run. My friend got a suit in Koh Samui and when he went for his fitting the stripes were horizontal. He took it anyway and wore it to a wedding. Now that was a suit !!!. (think convict and out of place and stealing the show from the bride, and you have the picture).
At last, I feel I've contributed with an answer to HHAD. (or did I just put you all to sleep).
Good morning

We have had a 4-5 suits and several pants done by tailors in HH, and I am sorry to say that only one suit is still looking OK. That one was made of expensive, very good quality fabric, the others just does not seem to make the trip in the suitcase back home alright....
Buying anything from the rack back in the western world is a better long-term option

If you only purchased one suit made of very good quality fabric, were you expecting the trip in the suitcase to improve something with the others? If you don't buy quality, you can't expect quality.elem wrote:We have had a 4-5 suits and several pants done by tailors in HH, and I am sorry to say that only one suit is still looking OK. Whenever I enter any Hua Hin tailors, I always make sure they only show me their best materials. It may cost a little more, but its well worth it in the end.
I have just returned with 8 shirts and 2 trousers this time - no problems.
