No sour grapes then?

santa, chill out and join in with the England party

3 weeks ago there weren't many English supporters who honestly thought they would be enjoying a second consecutive final. but we are. Why are we? The rest simply were not good enough bring it on - win or lose, we are still in the top 2 in the world.

argentina 34-10 france. if the pumas had played that well in the semi final, they would have been playing us in the final.

Well, good luck to South Africa, they had the luck of the Irish tonight!

Apart from that, we were just a bit lacking.

Roll on the next generation, one cost us the 1st 3 points, but I'm sure he'll make up for it in the future.

Cheers all! :thumb:

A good game, certainly not the walk over that many were expecting.

A few ifs, buts and maybes that could have changed the result, but no sour grapes. Well done to South Africa.

Congratulations South Africa - 2007 Rugby World Champions.

Congratulations also to England - I don't think too many people thought they would make it beyond the Quarter Finals (myself included) so to reach the final (taking out the Aussies and Le Bleu along the way) was a tremendous achievement.

Of course the try decision had an influence on the game and will be discussed at length for some time to come, but in truth our failure to control our own lineout was pivotal.

No disgrace to come 2nd after the way we started the tournament.

Well done the Boks - see you in 4 years time

Well done to the 'Boks and they deserve the trophy on the basis not just of the final but their play throughout. However the officiating in the final was awful - littered with errors and incorrect calls, which doesn't really advance the argument for the video ref either. Two or three of the players on both sides should have been 'binned' during the match as well, but were just waved back to their positions, and there were some nasty sneaky tricks tried that wasn't good to see, some of which were spotted, some not. I hope rugby is not going down the path that football took once big money and fame came into play, with cheating becoming the norm rather than the exception, and arguing with the ref (however bad he is) becoming commonplace.

Well done to Jake and the boys. A tough fought game, with a few dubious calls, but none the less tense stuff.
A sad end for Billy Whizz, but I'm quietly happy for big Oz.
Only another 4 years to wait.....

Exactly right - especially as the game wore on. It was an immense performance from Matfield.

As for the 'try' (or as I prefer to refer to it, the match saving tackle) how many of you really thought it was a try after seeing the endless replays? It was clearly the correct call, however close and heartbreaking that may be.

I thought Stuart Barnes and the English commentary team embarrassed themselves by going on and on about it for the rest of the match, allowing their partisan feelings to get the better of their professional objectivity. Still, I thought Martin Corrie conducted himself admirably in the immediate post match interview, resisting giving a reaction to the opening line; "Well, how do you feel Martin - you scored a try didn't you?" Unlike the ITV journos, Corrie was very dignified - I was impressed. Thank God someone still has standards these days.

Going back to the foot in touch incident, it is interesting to consider that in the days before the video replay that try would almost certainly have been given, because it was sooo close.

One more thing for all you England fans, who do you think your player of the tournament was? My vote would go to Gomarsall, who I think had a fantastic world cup.
